If it's a Model 94AE (angle eject) you can use a top mounted scope. People have already mentioned the side mount which I tried on my 94. It didn't stay on there long. I replaced it with a Scout Mount. With this mount you use an EER pistol scope. Unlike the side mount, this mount centers the scope over the rifle. The eyepiece is in front of the ejection port so no problems with cases hitting the scope when ejecting them. Fast target acquisition isn't a problem since it's easy to shoot with both eyes open. Ruger uses this same style mount on their Scout Rifle. I have a 2X6 pistol scope on the gun. This combination has taken many deer. With newer ammo like the Lever Revolution with pointed bullets the days of the 30-30 being a "150 yard gun" are over. Good luck with your gun.

RE:
Is is possible to mount a scope onto Winchester 3030 model 94?

Yes, it is possible to mount a scope on the old Winchester .30-30 1894. A side mount is used. Some of the newer 1894 have are angle ejection to help keep the spent casing from striking the scope. Once, in the Sixties, I saw an 1894 Winchester with a pistol scope mounted where the rear sights should go. The owner simply didn't like side mounted scopes and so he had a gunsmith mount a pistol scope on his 1894.

Best.

Early 94s would eject the spent shell casing straight up. Pretty hard to put a scope over the gun when the shell casing does that! However, there were a number of side mount scopes that would be offset to one side or the other, depending upon if you shot left or right handed. Pretty easy to break when they stuck off to the side and if you loaned the gun to someone who shot opposite hand, they were hosed.

However, Winchester fixed that with later models, starting in 1984. They have "angle eject" and shoot the cartridge off the the side. Just see if your Winchester is a later model made since 1984 and if it is, you should be able to mount a scope over the center line without a problem. There are a number of scope mounts you can chose from.

It's possible, popular, and not that great an idea. There's one floating around my family someplace scoped by my father when his eyes got to the point that there was no choice. I also have his scoped model 71 and will keep the scope on it for sentimental reasons (not to mention that the mount on THAT one is worth more than the model 94 and scope combined!) but both really are at their strongest as handy, quick-pointing rifles for close work, and you give up too much "pointability" with the scope on them. A good aperture sight offers the optical performance, although without the magnification, of the scope without unbalancing the gun, and for deliberate shots, you can always use your binoculars. Of course, if you don't have a bolt gun to put a scope on for those other occasions, your choices may be restricted.

I agree with WWD, why put a scope on a rifle that has a range of no more than 150 yards. It seems a shame to ruin a classic with a scope, particularly when it's not needed.

Check into an apeture or "peep" sight like Williams or the classic Lyman No 2.

My grandfather used a .30-30 Marlin for decades with just a peep sight and he always took home dinner.

Sure, the Win. Mod. 94 is one of the most popular deer rifles ever, so indeed there are rifle scope mounts made for them.
