Your definition of rich is extremely vague. I am married, have three kids, have a house, have 2 cars, etc. I wouldn't consider us rich. Just normal. In some places I would be considered extremely rich but here the US, I think we're pretty average.
I think God wants us to be able to do his work so sometimes he blesses us with the capacity to do so.

Absolutely. How else can we give back to God? How else can we feed the hungry and heal the sick? And yes, we are allowed to enjoy the fruits of our own labor. Both Abraham and Job were pretty well off. Somehow, a poverty mentality has crept into Christianity. Get the just released book Rich Church Poor Church for an enlightening look at God's purpose for our financial lives.

"Store up your treasures in Heaven"! What does it profit a man to have all the money in the world but not a single friend to enjoy it with? God wants us to be rich with love and wonderful memories and children; all the things money cannot purchase. Jesus could have come as a rich ruler but instead He chose to come from a ghetto (Bethlehem was considered a ghetto in those days). Being poor makes us depend on God every day to provide for us.

If you mean rich in money I don't think so. There are many ways to be rich. We tend to approach Christianity from a very Western point of view. Prosperity doctrine that says if you have enough faith and give to the t.v. evangelist you will get rich doesn't work in most of the world, therefore, since it's not universal it's not truth.

The bible doesn't go as far as to say that He wants us to be rich. However, it does say that he wants us to prosper and to be abundant. The truth is that we are given what we can handle. One can answer this question by considering the alternative. Does God want us to be poor? I suppose that most would answer "no". Rightly so. Poverty would not be an expression of the Divine but abundance is. :)

No.
He wants us to be obedient; living as His children. Some can handle wealth in a positive way, most cannot.
