In my Religion of Sufism(part of Islam) we do a ritual called the Dhikr...We get together and hold hands in a circle and chant/say/sing the Name of God in the arabic language. Allah...there are many names for God and He answers to all of them...If you are refering to the One God of the Universe....

We recite this name allowed, over and over again, with our tongue but bringing it from our hearts with sincerity and reverance....this cleans the hearts where God put the Divine spark.....So that the heart becomes polished and our Divinity can shine through......

This is a very Holy and sacred practice that has an amazing effect aside from the immediate deep trance-like feeling(I wouldn't really call it a trance), more liek elated and expanded, this practice brings about a change in you health and your life....God loves it when we call to Him by His Name....This practice is also called REMEMBRANCE....He say to His believers...if you remember me, I will remember you.....that means He will comfort us and guide us if we keep remembering Him...and through practice your heart become alight with the light of God in you daily life and you can carry it with you wherever you go......
