If your gums are inflamed, red and swollen around the teeth, you have a gum disease, most common is Gingivitis. Use strong salt water to rinse, three or more time a day, strong is one level teaspoon to a half cup of waem water, your gums will heal. I'm 66 and still have 27 of my teeth out of 32. I have spent around $40,000.00 in dental over the last 43 years. People with false teeth will tell you, there is nothing like your real teeth.

Swelling and pain indicates an infection. You need to see a Dentist not a Dr. or ER and get some antibiotics. Good healthy check up wouldn't hurt either, along with a cleaning.

Shared saliva during a kiss or taking a bite out of another's food transmits germs. As for treatment, go to a dentist.
