NO, don't buy a dog! That would really upset your cats. Play with them more... my cats love those feather things on a stick. They jump and chase after them like crazy! Also, there are lower calorie cat foods. I feed my cats IAMS weight control food when they start getting chunky. Your vet office also has many weight control cat foods. Limit their amount of food each day... don't keep the food bowl completely full all the time. Good luck!

cats have a tendancy to sleep for about 18 hours a day...in the wild they would spend the rest hunting. This is a tough problem for a house cat! If you buy them toys and play with them it will give them maybe twenty minutes of exercise a day as they will become bored of the toys quickly. I would definitely change the diet to a lower fat and cut back on the amount of feeding as we all are guilty of just putting some food in the old cat bowl cause they don't wolf it down like a dog. I have a jack russell terrier who loves cat food. To stop her from eating the cat's food we only give the cat enough food for each little meal. I must put a little food in that bowl 10-12 times a day! Now imagine a bored kitty with a big old bowl of food just waiting! Here comes Mr. Fatty! You could also try( some cat's freak) to take your cat for a walk. If all else fails perhaps you have a neighbor with a rodent problem? Then you could send out the fat cats to chase some mice...the ideal way to shape up...hunting and stalking! Good Luck to you:)

Ok I have never laughed harder then when I read some of those answers you where given. OMG what are some of these ppl thinking. ok sorry.... I suggest changing their diet slowly so as not to upset their delicate tummies to much with a vet reccomended cat food. Mine is and indoor cat so we use an indoor formulated cat food thats kept him slim but well fed and healthy. We do use catnip he goes bonkers for it and it is like caffine or I hate to say it getting high. their eyes get huge and they startle at the littleest thing its funny. You only want to use just a tiny pinch of catnip to much and there will be no calming them down for quite a while. And keep it in the freezer keeps it longer specially if its dried already. The best places I found are right on their scratching post if they have one or on their fav sunning spot. I know it sounds silly but even getting a halter collar and leash just to get them outside for a few mins for fresh air isnt a bad idea the new sounds and smells might trigger something but if you do this you need to keep it up or they will lose all interest in trying new things or atlest mine did..lol. Good luck

I would suggest slowly working to a goal. Slowly work your way up to an active cat. Start slow with some walking exercises so it can get used to it. After a while start walking some long distances. Give rewards for good participation. You may be able to take it to a gym for cats but thats a waste. Give the cat a healthy mixture of food and make sure it knows what to do.

The dog idea is funny, lol. You could through one of their more interesting toys around. I love seeing fat kitties run after their toys ^.^
I'm sure they will. But the dog, lol, thats a cute idea, but the cats would probably die of a heart attack more than being obese with the dog around!
& another idea is getting a leash & walking around outside with them for a little bit. Yes, very weird, but they do sell cat leashes. So maybe when you want to go for a walk you can grab them also & give them some exercise.

you can experiment on feeding him less each day with healthy cat food. However, do not give him human food. Also, try to make him move by buying him a ball of yarn, scratch post or something else.
The best thing to do is to buy a laser and point it on the ground so that the cat can see it and it will try to catch it. Keep on messing around with him and he will probably become compulsive on capturing the little red spot.

by a motorized mouse or somthing that simulates a prey.
though cats digestive tracts have changed to our food over the hundred years they still have a carnivrious instinct.
you also need to put them on a diet try hill's r/d you can get from your vet then feed a traget weight not what they weigh, use for a few months then when your cats are at a healthy weight change them to a matainice formula like w/d or a light food. Light foods are just for maintainace not weight reduction. you can just do a light food but it will take a lot longer.

Cat nip. My cat was so very lazy. I got her a ball with a little catnip and she chases the thing everywhere. Tie it to the string and run around with it. You'll both get exercise!

A hungry cat is much more active than a cat that it overfed. When they are always full there is no reason for them to do anything. Keep them a little hungry. Don't starve them just don't feed them as much.
