My father was 82nd airborne and told me I was nothing. I heard him say one time that he loved me and he was in his 70's.

There is a book entitle "The Five Love Languages" I can't recall the author, but try looking it up some time. You might get a lot of helpful information for yourself as well as for and about your parents.
As long as you believe that they do love you then you're better off than a lot of other people, like me for instance.
But I do hope you get a chance to read the book, I mentioned; I'm sure it will explain a lot.

My dad - alot. My mom - not so much. It seems insincere though, but I don't think it was.
I tell my kids all the time, and they tell me. It's a warm and cozy feeling to hear that from a 3 year old :-) And they really, really mean it.
I'm sorry you didn't get that from your parents :-( Everyone should. It's natural and very healthy. But different people and different generations are kinda funny about it. Me, I'm very open about it and love on my kids every chance I get. Sometimes they like it, and sometimes I annoy them LOL. But too bad! I'm doing it anyway!

Hardly, which made me the self conscious person I am today.
Ha! However I understand now that I am a parent too that perhaps when I was young they were too busy or had too much on their minds to say it or show it alot. It happens, its not right but sometimes you get wrapped up in life. My parents are more loving now that I am older and got out on my own.

Not so much now that im older,, but my mom told me all the time she loved me. My dad im not sure of, but i always had a habbit of telling them i loved them before i left them or went to bed, im 24 now and I still cant say bye without saying luv ya afterwards, and ofcourse they say it back. I tell my kids at least once a day, before they go to bed, and before i leave to go somewhere. I might take it overboard lol. I have noticed some people dont say it as much to there family members,,, im sure it not casue they dont love them like u said, but im not sure why.

No, not very often... maybe about 20 times in my life, (I'm 31) but it's o.k...
I have a son now who is 9. I tell him several times a day that I love him... sometimes I think I baby him too much, but I'm getting better at that, I've got to cause you know.. He's a big boy now.

Not really. My mom more so than my dad at least. But I know they do anyway and actions speak louder than words.
Plus, when it comes down to it and I'm about to go somewhere or do something risky they'll say it. It's hard for me to say it back though. I think that's the only thing I feel I'm missing out on. Because they didn't say it much/didn't expect me to say it back I have a hard time saying it to anyone now. I've actually said "thanks" before instead.

My parents tell me they love me every day before I go to bed and before I leave for school or they leave for work. It's nice to hear it sometimes, but when you hear it 2 or 3 times a day, it doesn't mean as much anymore. I'd be willing to bet that when your parents tell you that they love you it means a lot to you.

They never told me either. Back then you just did not hear kinds words from other people that much. I have to tell you thank you for asking this question. Usually things that remind me of my childhood bring up bitterness, but this time it did not happen. God is healing my heart!

no mine didn't either, it was only in those times when its mandatory- like birthdays, Christmas you know. let me ask you one-do you tell the ones you love that you love and how often or do you think the lack of has caused you to also withhold those precious words that we need to hear as often as possible. you know its funny, i don't tell my family how i love them but in my relationships its like i give them a down pour of i love yous--i don't know. what about you?
