Are you eating enough during the day?
You're probably bored, or tired, or stressed. Try taking a walk, playing a video game, or calling someone on the phone. Also pay attention to how you're feeling when you're overeating at night. You might find that you're frustrated about work or you feel some other negative emotion that you're attempting to repress with food.
Or maybe eating at night is a habit. I know it's a habit for me. You may never be able to completely break it, but you can reduce the damage it does. Try eating something low-cal, but high-fiber, like carrot sticks with 2tbsp of hummus, or a med. apple.
Again, make sure you're eating enough during the day. On a 1200-calorie a day diet, you should have eaten about 700 calories by dinner time. On an 1800-calorie diet, you should have eaten about 1000 calories by dinner.
It might help to keep a food diary and see what your trouble foods are.
I can sympathize with you on this problem. At night, I'll eat anything, ranging from fatty cheeses to even fattier ice creams. But I've helped the problem by eating at more regular intervals and breaking habits. For example, I used to have a little dessert right after dinner, and that made me want to pig out. I now eat dessert after my shower and pigging out isn't usually a problem (except when my mother makes cookies. Gads, do I love cookies!)

With any diet, whether it be a calorie counting diet (which sounds like what you're doing) or a low carb diet it takes time for your body to adjust to the new program.
Don't beat yourself up about this. KEEP TRYING. The worst thing you can do now is give up. Here are a few suggestions.
1. Eat smaller sized meals more frequently.
2. Limit night time snacks to something healthy. (Apple wedges, rice cakes, unsalted popcorn...)
3. Don't miss meals throughout the day. The mindset that if you skip a meal - the better just adds to your hunger at the end of the day.
Good luck to you and don't give up - it will get easier!

Healthy food:
_Salad
_Chicken
_Seafood
*Nuts are fat remember that.
Stay full:
_Eat 3 meals a day, you can eat as much as you want for breakfast and cut down the food at lunch or dinner. Because, breakfast is the most important meal and it doesn't really make you fat.
_Drink water when you're hungry. It helps you stay hydrate and full.
_Eat 2 pieces of bread then drink water because then, the bread pieces will absorb water and make you full.
_Eat juicy fruits (pears) before a meal. It makes you full and keep you from eating too much food.
_Eat yogurt before a meal, it contains the acid that will digest some of the food you eat. One after the meal is good too.
_Attract yourself by doing some other activities when you're hungry. Like, when you're hungry, don't buy food, cook it. It takes 30 minutes to cook and by the time you're done cooking, you become tired and don't really feel like eating or even if you eat, you don't eat that much.
_Cut down the snacks. Eat cereal instead of a cookie or muffin, then drink water, you'll be bloat.
_Ahhh, don't look at the food magazine for goodness sake.
--> Watch your calories <---
Best way is just to work out or walk like 30 minutes a day. Instead of driving to school, walk. Instead of drive to a near supermarket, walk. Instead of watching tv, do your laundry, or clean the house.
I hope that help.
There are many ways to keep you healthy and in shape.

I FEEL THE EXACT SAME WAY! I'm glad someone else is going through this but i'm getting better. Anyways, when you're going to get something to eat, ask yourself, am i hungry? It will really help you decide whether or not to. A good thing that I found in this magazine said that when you are in the kitchen, keep the lights as bright as you possibly can. Studies have shown that you eat more in dim light because you feel less self conscience.

omg, ...its sucks doesnt it!??? i do exactly!! the same thing!
I just went to health store today to find out about an appetite suppressant, ......for 5pm...cus after that....my sweets mode takes over, and i want to eat all damn night long!!
The lady suggested cinnamon!....Organic cinnamon....It does something for leveling the blood sugars.....and that helps keep cravings in check! I'm gonna try it, i have nothing to lose but weight!
i also find water helps, .to always have it with you! ..
Also...i buy these little bottles of spray candy!! Every time i get a craving, i squirt it on my tongue. It helps a bit.

You've gotten some good tips for directing your attention away from eating, but I'm afraid the bottom line is still willpower. Just say no.

Try a warm/cold glass of fresh milk, to help relieve hunger without a prescription. It also helps to eat a big dinner, or have a bowl of ceareal that does not have very many calories. Also try to get to sleep before the cravings start. If none of the above works, you could always try to get a pill for cravings, but that should always be your LAST RESORT. Hope this helps.

i know that eatting at night is the worst time to eat, because u never burn off all of that fat u gained so, i would say...
a few sweets every now and then
fruit instead of cheezits or crackers
not too much cilli on ur hotdog !lol!
and um... try to stick to ur normal eatting schedule exsept replace sugar w/ fruits and veggies, and not so much to eat at night (but if u cant stop eatting at night, then after u eat go for a midnight jog and when u get home have a water and save ur appetite for the morning!
hope i helped out!

try eating around 7:30-8:00
it will hold you through the night and it is still not late enough to just sit on your stomach while you sleep.
=)
(even though it is hard to avoid mid night snacks, FIGHT THE CRAVINGS!)
Also try chewing gum, it will take your mind off the hungry and keep your mouth busy!
