No! Coffee cups vary in volume, and are usually much more than 8oz. Go to the dollar store and buy a measuring cup!

You'd be taking a chance, because there are many different sizes of coffee cups and mugs. My regular mugs (in a set) are 10 ounces, and a cup is of course 8 ounces. I have a collection of cups and mugs that range from 8 to 12 ounces. My coffee maker, which is supposed to make 5 cups, actually makes only 2.5 of my 10-ounce cupfuls. So their "cups" are only 5 ounces. If you have a mug which is about 2.25" (6cm) in diameter and 3.5" (9cm) deep, it will hold very close to one cup of liquid (not filled to the brim, but about 1/4" below it).

No, baking recipes are actually formulas and require exact measurements. I suggest buying a set of dry measure measuring cups and a set of we wet measure (Pyrex) measuring cups.
