Jeremiah 10
God and Idols
1 Hear what the LORD says to you, O house of Israel. 2 This is what the LORD says:
"Do not learn the ways of the nations
or be terrified by signs in the sky,
though the nations are terrified by them.
3 For the customs of the peoples are worthless;
they cut a tree out of the forest,
and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.
4 They adorn it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so it will not totter.
5 Like a scarecrow in a melon patch,
their idols cannot speak;
they must be carried
because they cannot walk.
Do not fear them;
they can do no harm
nor can they do any good."
6 No one is like you, O LORD;
you are great,
and your name is mighty in power
I know it it not harmfull it is just disrespect I feel people are confused by the cross between the traditions of men and what God want

no i2 thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
6 ¶ Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in
t is a tree.

An important key to understanding any passage is to pay careful attention to its context. Verses 2 through 4 of Jeremiah 10 are part of a larger context. That larger context is verses 1 through 16. In these verses Jeremiah proclaims the Lord as the only God. "No one is like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power. Who should not revere you, O King of the nations? This is your due.... The Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King.... God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding" (verses 6-7, 10, 12, NIV).
The gods that pagans worship are nothing compared to the Lord. Verses 8 and 9 speak of "worthless wooden idols" on which workmen place hammered silver and gold, and rich apparel.
Jeremiah is not condemning Christmas trees. He is condemning idolatry. The trees in Jeremiah 10 are cut down to carve them into worthless idols that will later be decorated with gold and silver. Jeremiah says nothing about Christmas trees. That custom originated in northern Europe, not in ancient Palestine.

I know that those passages seem to refer to a Christmas tree, however in those days the heathens and idol worshippers cut down trees and carved them into Idols adorned in silver and gold........and worshipped them as gods. To completely understand these writings all verses must be read carefully

They are talking about making an idol. They cut wood, carved it, hammered Gold on it and otherwise adorned it. You are to have no other God`s..
They are NOT talking about Christmas trees.

I think He means that they cut trees and put gold/silver on it to make a god to worship. I decorate a tree because it reminds me of the beauty of God, just like I have a cross on my wall, reminds me of Jesus, but I do not worship them. If they were gone tomorrow it would not bother me.

It is simply talking about idols. If you are referring to a Christmas tree you are not talking about what is said here.

It's not talking about Christmas trees hon, they are speaking of the idols that people had in their homes. They'd get one and put jewelry on it in hopes of pleasing it.

And your point is.................... Now take the tree and the joy out of christmas. . . i would hate to be your child, instead of seeing christmas presents under a tree on christmas morning you can bore them to death with a literal bible reading. . . well done. . . i am sure if you keep reading you will find a passage that you can interpret that breathing is a sin.

I am sure you will get answers from Christians who enjoy Christmas trees that interprete it differently, and/or quote from other Bible passages, say it is out of context, etc. It is just another example of confusion and inconsistency Christians tolerate.
