Every wedding I have been too the bride and groom leave before the last of the guests. Any lingering guests tend not to stay much longer because really what's the point? If you want to stay until the guests leave you could have the DJ announce the last dance and wait by the door to say your goodbyes.

This is what we are doing at ours. Ours starts at 2 and will end sometime between 6 and 7. They will announce the last dance. Than we will get everyone to gather outside to see us off. Than the guests will leave from there.

I think you are talking about the reception, not the ceremony.

If you are having a DJ, the DJ will gather everyone around in a circle so that the bride and groom can have their last dance. Then you say goodbye to your guests that are still there and everyone pretty much leaves after that dance is over.

The band or dj will typically announce a last dance or something like that. People then know its all over.

It's traditional that the bride & groom leave first. Once they have left everyone gets the hint to leave. Or do as my grandmother does & announce that they don't have to stay to wash up.

start closing down the bar an hour before. have all food removed. have the announcer or host call last dance. turn down the lights.
