You absolutely do not have to accept the Bible as the word of God to believe in him.

Jesus Christ himself is the living Word of God.

John 1:14: The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The Bible is a collection of books written by faithful men of God recording their dawning understanding about God's work to call humanity back to himself.

The Bible contains some of the words of the Word of God in the four gospels. It also contains some misunderstandings that the Word had to correct, e.g., on divorce and dietary restrictions.

To read the Bible well, we must read from the inside out. We must accept the words of the Word as definitive. The incomplete revelation in the Old Testament must be read critically. In the same way, it would be a mistake to read the writings of the Apostles in the New Testament as equal to the teachings of the Word.

This means that if there is a conflict between a teaching of Paul (e.g., Ephesians 2:8-9, which suggests faith alone and predestination) and Jesus (e.g., Matt 25 on judgment by charitable works), Jesus must prevail--as indeed he has in the adjudication of the Church.

Cheers,
Bruce

Im not offended. Not at all. I just dont understand why you are arguing over words and quibbling over explanations. It is just different ways of expressing the same thought.

My 'word', what I say, what I write, what I promise - all equal the same thing.

The Word of God as applied to Christ is a title, a position He holds.

When the phrase "word of God" is applied to the Bible it merely means something different.

We are all judged by a sincere, honest and INFORMED conscience. Deliberate ignorance is a different matter: however, God is the final judge. I suggest prayer as an aid to a good conscience.
