Well I could say.........
F......found
O......on
R.....road
D.....dead
or
F......fix
O....or
R.....repair
D.....daily
Or
a hunk of tin and a piece of board is all it takes to make a FORD
But really we drive a 1978 Ford van and she is great.

What an extremely loaded question. Well, I think the best answer is that Ford's reliability depends on what model you are looking for. As stated before, most cars will not have any problems if run correctly, so many used Fords may be in poor condition. Also, some models from the 1970s to the late 1990s had what could be considered bad reliability. The new Fords that are coming off the assembly line today (and the past 2 or 3 years, for that matter) are very close to the top of their class in reliability. It is worth noting though, that modern cars are more reliable than new cars were 20 or even 5 years ago. So Ford may place below Toyota, but it may be by 1 or 2 defects per 100 vehicles (industry average is about 130, Mercury is about 104, Lincoln about 110, and Ford about 125). Also worth noting, the Mercury Milan is the #1 most reliable midsize, the Fusion is 3rd, and the Lincoln MKZ is the #1 in midsize luxury.
Ford's quality renaissance is occuring as we speak, Consumer reports recommends 41 of 44 Fords and will no longer automatically reccomend Toyota.

'Fast On Race Day' may be a bit of fantasy. Ford got out of racing in the early 70's.
I own 3 cars; an 83 Ford Mustang (3.8l), 2002 Chevy Malibu (3.1l) and a 1996 Volvo GLT (2.4l). The Ford needs constant maintenance and seems to break down every other time I use it. The Chevy Malibu is somewhat more reliable... However neither has proven reliable as my Volvo. American cars in general are just cheap.
But btw, as far as racing - a comparison of engine size alone doesn't mean much. The Volvo's 2.4l can outperform and out speed most cars (and it might even last 500,000 miles).

As people said on here that spoke the truth.....
Ford made some good vehicles but also made some cheaper cars that became junk quickly and it lasted well into the earlier part of this decade unfortuneately (Early model Focus cars had their share of issues, it took to about 2002 for Ford to clean up it act completely...the 6.0 wasn't a Ford issue as it was a International issue of rushing a engine to production)
Since Ford bought out Volvo's car division, they have apparently been teaching Ford engineers somethings as Quality has gone up and most issues now are more supplier issues (Ford has been getting some parts from Delphi, A former GM company) that have been the biggest issues with quality lately...But most cars now we don't see except for maintaince.... In the last year, I've worked on only one of the fusions..and that's because the owner lost the keys.. before for example, the Contour had a few recalls by it's 4th birthday and already had major issues by it's first.. Quality has definitely gone up

Fords are reliable and for the most part well built. Open a door on a FORD Focus then a Toyota Corolla. You will definitely feel a difference. I know because I have done it. JD Powers and Consumer Reports have seen the light finally, and are rating all American Cars fairly for a change, and Ford is doing very well.
I have owned Japanese cars, German cars and Ameican Cars. I have made the switch to Ford for the last 10 years and have been very happy. They are less expensive than comparable Japanese cars, and are proving to last. My last Focus got 220,000 miles and I traded it in for a newer one (04) and an 05.
It is pretty much personal preference, but all American Cars have come up in the last 10 years. Keep up the good work !!

You can't seriously ask a question like this...! Some people swear by Ford and others will hate them until they die.
My experience has not been good with Fords. Seems the transmission will always go out. Happened in my 1980 Fairmont, 1995 Countour and 1996 Taurus SHO. Also happened in my company car... 2003 Taurus. Only Ford I didn't have problems with was my 1977 F-150. I guess they don't make them like they used to.

Well think of it this way, if Ford wasn't reliable don't you think they would go out of business and be one of those companies that arnt manufacturing cars? You still see people buy brand new fords today, if they weren't reliable they probably wouldn't even buy from them. So long story short yes I would consider Ford reliable .

Yes they are I have ford fiesta Zetec S mk5 Phase 2 2001 Plate now just done 151,000 miles on clock and still on original head gasket, bottom end, CV joint, Gearbox, Driveshaft, fuel pump. I had the fiesta for 2 years 6 months and been super reliable. I had few issue Starter motor, Thermostat, HCV, Clutch bought it on 110k. I look after it really well have it service regular I change the oil filter with oil change every 10k. And done Spark plugs, Coilpack, HT leads, Pollen filter, air filter, fuel filter, all fluid flush out and fresh gearbox oil been looked after so well and I ve never broken down on motorway and I check the oil and water level regular like once a week or check oil every time before long journey. I am hoping will reach 200k miles with no issue on those 6 things head gasket, bottom end, CV joint, fuel pump, driveshaft, gearbox. I always drive slow on cold mornings to warm up before going 3000-4000 revs let temperature gauge get half way then fully warmed up.

I have a 79 Bronco with over 400K miles and with the exception of the clutch ALL of the driveline is factory original. the 300 I6 is known to be capable of 1 MILLION miles with proper maintenance and 7.3 superduties regularly see 500K or more in stock trim, I have yet to see ANY import reach these achievements in mileage without major problems. Toyota used to make a BIG deal about reaching 100K miles. Ford never made it a big deal or tried anything back since 100K meant you had just broke the engine in. unfortunatley the 100K BIG deal is why everyone thinks toyotas are SOOO reliable.

Fords are not reliable cars. If Fords were reliable, they would not have boosted the powertrain warranty.
