It's not like they allow their kids to swear. I'm 15 and a future psychology and sociology double major. Think about what the kids are exposed to every day. Their parents, friends, teachers, and characters on t.v. all cursing. Times have changed. It's like 9 is the new 13, 13 is the new 15... They just want to act older.

My son has sworn only a couple of times, and each time I explain why he's not allowed to use their words. Frankly, I don't consider swearing worth punishing him though. Its just words. I do warn him, however, that in school he will face consequences and people will think differently of him. He will then not use the word anymore.
Some words I dont have a problem with like 'butt' but some other mothers do.
And technically, the only 'swearing' is using the lord's name in vain. Anything else are just naughty.

I'm in my mid 20's and to this day I still don't swear around my parents. I think it's more out of respect for them. I know kids are going to swear, but I do not think that parents should allow it or encourage it.

They're going to be exposed to it sooner or later, why try to hide them from the harsh society we live in. To be honest with you, I think children who are aware of the world around them, which isn't pretty, at a young age, are less shocked/confused when they realize life isn't a fairy tale. As for swearing, yes, it's disgusting and vile language, but it is simply that, just words. In order to be well-equipped for the world, you don't need to be trashy or have a sailor's mouth. It also might not be the parents faults. They could pick it up at school. Kids aren't stupid anymore.

I feel like this:
Most kids whether they admilt to it or not swear in front of their friends to look "cool", If I caught my son doing it though I'd be very angry. I knew better and respected my parents enough to hide it very well! I expect the same out of my son.

There are NO requirement that parents MUST raise their children any which way. Many parents allow their children to do things I can't believe they allow too.
