As others have mentioned, it depends on which parts of Australia or New Zealand - I grew up in Australia but now live in New Zealand. If you want to go ski-ing, by all means visit NZ (or the Snowy Mountains in Oz) in winter otherwise be prepared for cold weather. Not COLD cold, but an average of about 52deg to 60deg in the main areas. Queensland is warmer but can have frosts in Brisbane in July. It can actually be quite warm in Sydney, Brisbane in August but June is dead in the middle of winter. Temperatures in tourist areas such as Rotorua - New Zealand (and any visitor would have to go there!) are very cold in winter - about 42deg max. (8 - 12deg centigrade)
The best time in New Zealand is March, April - that's when there is less rain, and the best weather (generally) after that it starts to get cold.

It really depends where you will be in either of the countries.

This is the middle of our winter and much like America, we have places going through a "hot" winter, other places get snow.

New Zealand would be quite cold at this time, as it is set south east off the Australian coast.

If you are after a hot, sunny summer, Queensland is the place to be. It's nice at night to snuggle up in bed, but you don't need heating. During the day you can get away with wearing a T-shirt for the most part.

On a whole, it is a very tame winter by comparison.

New Zealand, definitely cool in June to COLD in August. Australia - depends on which part - same as New Zealand for Melbourne and Tasmania - warm to hot in Cairnes, Darwin and the like...

Northern Australia has a warmth-warm climate in the course of the southern hemisphere iciness. November is spring, and December to February is summer season right here. It does, notwithstanding, snow in Tasmania in some circumstances in summer season if there is an unseasonal southerly wind notwithstanding it really is the kind of snow that in difficulty-free words lasts an afternoon or 2.

Its winter season there but they have a fairly mild winter. The further south you go, the colder it will be. Some areas will get snow but by no means everywhere.
