Problem with sony hand held digital camera....?

Question

I put a mini DV tape in (that has footage on it) and the camera begins to play, but it shows no image or timecode. All it shows is the play symbol. It does this with all tapes. Is there a way to fix this?

Do you know what is wrong with my camera? It has never done this before.

Most likely it is a head that has been clogged with a speck of dust. Take a new (clean) tape and run it through the camera playback for at least 10 minutes. That should remove the offending debris. Now try playing a previously recorded tape. If still no luck, then major repairs are called for.
