I can't see why you would make a reservation under any name but your own. What will you do when they ask for a credit card to cover any extra expenses? It just seems silly and childish. Plus, couldn't they deny you the room since your license says you are not Mr. Smith?

Brings back memories...my Husband and I did this some 33 years ago.. But I left my shoes in the hotel and they sent them back to my future Mother-in-law. Should have seen the look on her face when she gave me back my shoes.
My face also went bright red. I kept thinking that she would ring up my Mother and tell her.....but she never did.
My husband was that embarrassed that he gave in his right address.
I always made sure I never left anything again. Hey ho, dont tell my daughter this will you, she thinks that her Dad and I never do things like that.

No...haven't had any reason to, although when my friends and I were younger, like 10 or something, we used to order pizza everyday in the summer (yea, it was a big deal to us....it was the 90's, what can I say??!!) and each day, we'd order it by a different name. That was back when you'd order pizza and give them your last name and they'd write it on the box. Hey, we were home alone, we had to make our own entertainment! =)
