I just dropped a hamburger patty on the kitchen floor. If I pop it in the microwave for a minute, will the radiation kill any bacteria? Thanks.

If the hamburger patty is cooked place it in the microwave for 2 to 3 minutes. It has to reach an internal temperature of 155 F to kill off all the bacteria.

If it is uncooked wash it off then cook as normal. If cooked properly it will kill the bacteria.

If you dropped it on the floor, and it's raw, rinse it off and cook it. If you did it in a restaurant - hopefully you toss it but I'll bet not all places do.

If it's cooked, any chance you can put it back on the pan you cooked it in (after rinsing it off) and give it a little more time in the oven?

I do know that if you use sponges in your kitchen and you rinse it out well and put it in the microwave, if you cook it on High for a little longer than a minute, it will kill all the germs in the sponge and it won't get that nasty sour smell that dirty sponges get.

i don't see why not, i mean if the heat and humidity here in st louis is anything close to what it's like inside a working microwave... i can't imagine any germs surviving...

absolutely not. but if you are like my grandmother then the 10 second rule applies....if it wasn't on the floor longer than 10 seconds then all is ok....your choice
