I know a lot of others see this similarity too...but do they?
Arrogance is what binds these two groups together. Do they not see this themselves?
How many ohters see this and find it hilarious that they both hate on each other...but are both so much alike?

Molten: It is not implied by my statements that ONLY atheists and fundamentalists are arrogant. Just like if I said, apples and fire trucks are similar, because they are both red. That does not mean they are the only things that are red.

NiceNCool: There is another similarity, they both hate the group you just described. The more I think about it, I agree with some others here...not similar...identical.

They're both pretty darn sure of themselves, aren't they? LOL. This is like a "skeptic" who says , "There is no way possible that there is life on other planets". Doesn't sound too skeptical to you, now does it?

The only similarity is that they have both taken 2 ideas. One based on faith the other on the lack of evidence and taken them to their logical conclusions. It is not a matter of arrogance it is a matter of intellectual honesty from both groups. Christian fundamentalist for instance say that the Bible is the word of god and take it literally and believe this is so on faith alone. Atheists say that there is no reason to believe in a god due to a lack of evidence.
As an atheist myself I don't hate fundamentalist, I dislike them because they're busybodies, but I understand them. Actually it's liberal Christianity that I really hate. They make even less sense than the fundamentalist and are far more intellectually dishonest about their beliefs than fundamentalist are.

When one presents a question about faith at this site, you generally get angry, close-minded answers from only two groups: atheists and Christian Fundamentalists.
I am not saying that EVERY answer by both groups is extreme and non-compromising; I'm saying that MOST of them are.
Sometimes, after reading a slew of answers from both groups, I wonder why I even come to this site. Do I really get pleasure from reading angry, closed-minded, hurtful comments from people from these backgrounds?
Thankfully, these aren't the only answers people write here. In fact, there are quite a few open-minded Christians and sensitive atheists (among others) whose answers enrich my life and make me think.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has come to the conclusion that these two groups have a lot in common. Perhaps one day closed-minded Fundamentalists and atheists will realize that others might listen/read their views more closely if they are shared with a bit of sensitivity and compassion. Peace be with you.

The similarity is that each and every believes that the ego/strategies can parent certainty. What i think is authentic by using fact i think it. we are non secular beings and our authentic nature is such that as quickly as we placed our interest upon something we comprehend it intuitively and promptly. as quickly as we are absolute to the ego/strategies we nevertheless have that experience of being notwithstanding that's authorized to the incorrect self, the fake self, the ego/strategies that imagines that what it sees and feels and is conscious by ability of the senses is the fact. fact is the unseen ability and Substance upon which the dream rests. that's countless and easily what's countless can know or comprehend it. The senses are given us to renowned the worldwide of style, the finite realm of appearances and mortal adventure. The introduction is right here to particular God's Glory and we are right here to witness that Glory and thrill in it. quite we go through in it by using fact we forget our authentic nature and develop into sure by ability of the delusion. Why is it that the saints adventure Bliss even interior the face of their suffering for mankind? So there is the similarity. They each and every have faith they see the worldwide aright by using fact they mistake sensations for realities and the unseen as unreal. those recommendations lead fundamentalists to think of that God is a few being sitting in an antiseptic nook of area. If God isn't chanced on the place He abides he won't be chanced on in any respect. Atheists are desirable that that God they are announcing does not exist does not exist and Fundamentalists are incorrect in announcing that the God they are announcing exists, exists. And yet, God Is. Namaste'

Let's see here... We atheists typically admit that they don't know how the universe began. We acknowledge that we aren't 100% certain of our beliefs. We don't try to force others to conform to our beliefs. We don't legislate in an effort to establish atheism. We bother to know what we're talking about before we talk.
No, I don't see arrogance in the atheists. In general, the atheists are easily the least arrogant group here.

Arrogance is always the result when some one or some group believes themselves to be right and are incapable or unwilling to compromise, listen to others or consider other points of view.

Arrogance is a funny term when the word is uttered by those who legitimately believe that "god" created the Earth with them included in the plan, sounds pretty self-centered to me. That is among the fundamental problems with the concept is that humility is ranked near the top of "christian" values but in order to believe is to believe that "god" had them in mind when "he" created the universe, or at least included you in the plan.

Atheists and Fundamentalists have nothing in common. Atheists do not believe in god as the evidence has led them to that conclusion. Fundamentalists will not change their minds, no matter how much evidence is presented.
If irrefutable evidence of god's existence was presented, in principle, Atheists would believe in god.

Atheists believe that an invisible creator being doesn't exist, which is pretty much completely unproveable, and they believe that this belief system is far superior to every other belief system in existence.
In answer to your question: I don't think they are similar, I think they are identical.
