Sure I will admit that a Christian can drift the wrong direction and give in to temptation BUT they should soon realize that they are wrong and turn back to Jesus and ask for forgiveness. If you have the Spirit of Christ in you how can you WILLFULLY WANT TO TURN AWAY and commit sin without being regretful? I mean let's face it the whole term of "Backslidding" in the Christian mind is a loop hole for Christians to get involved in sin and still feel they are saved because as they say "once saved always saved". I say if you claim to be a Christian and believe you can sin and God won't mind then you might not be a Christian. What are your thoughts on this Backsliding thing?

If someone willfully backslides, he was never saved to begin with.

I think all humans beings make mistakes. I believe that God and Christ understand this, and all the while any of us stray from the path they would rather us follow we are watched over and hoped for immensely. Life is a never-ending lesson, and sometimes taking the wrong path can help us come back to the right one a little wiser in many ways. I do not think labeling yourself anything in order to excuse continually behaving less than ethical and compassionate is acceptable. The idea "once saved always saved" is simply not true.

A true christian can backslide, however, he or she will not ENJOY their salvation in that condition. A true christian will eventually repent and be restored to a condition where they can once again ENJOY their salvation.

Salvation is the free gift of God. Salvation is our standing before God and is eternal. When a christian sins loses the joy of their salvation but their position is secure.

Christians don't like to admit that it's possible to lose faith, so they call it 'backsliding' instead. People 'backslide' not because they want to sin, but because they don't believe much in the first place.

I think that christian swho had something bad happen to them, sure they could "backslide" and turn away. and christians don't always turn back to Christ, unfortunetly. And I think you are absolutely right that if someone sins AND THINKS THAT GOD WON'T CARE, they arent a Christian. everybody sins, christian or not, but if they think it doesnt matter to God, then that person is wrong

James says "faith without works is dead."

He means that a faith that does not demonstrate itself with good works is not a genuine faith that will lead to salvation.

Calvin said it like this: "we are saved by faith alone, but the faith that saves is never alone"

True faith will be demonstrated in changed hearts and changed living. We should never give assurance to people who continue in sin. The bible is full of warnings about perservering to the end - check out Hebrews especially - why would there be warnings about perservering to the end, living a holy life etc, if one couldn't lose salvation?

Good question :-)

Then you are a foolish person. Christ made it clear that you can be saved even unto the eleventh hour. It doesn't matter how much you backslide you can fornicate or even murder then at the eleventh hour ask forgiveness and be saved. Yes fornicate all you like that sounds like fun doesn't it.

For some reason, when I hear the term 'backsliding', it reminds me of a Slip 'n' Slide.

As God said its a true saying......." But it is happened unto them according to the True proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire"

And thats backsliding as God said......

It happens. There are some who are Christians and simply turn away from God without a regret and with all abandon.
