My 9 year old cat generally never wears a collar. But since our house is on the market and there have been a number of brokers coming and going, I put a collar on him just to be on the safe side in case one of the Broker's accidentally let him out. Now that I've taken the collar off after about a month, I've noticed that his fur has all fallen off under where the collar was and he has a bald ring around his neck :( Can anyone tell me if this will grow back or have I permanently disfigured my handsome cat?

It'll grow back. At most it'll take 2 months, thats how long it takes to come back in full if things have been shaved, but worm areas by a collar should only take a month.

I know this is not the exact same thing, but I had a cat and dog once. They both had fleas, so my grandma who was staying with us decided to buy those flea collars. And put one on each of them. No one realized they were for dogs.

A few days later my cat was crying at my bedroom door. So I let him in and I noticed the collar was hanging off him. I thought this is weird. How is this possible. Then I saw the problem, the collar had eaten in to his skin. So I rushed him to the vet and the vet gave him some thing for the pain and took the collar all the way off. Then gave me an antibiotic ointment to rub on it. He said there was 1% chance any hair would grow back and that there wasn't a chance it would all grow back.

So I accepted his bald neck and loved him any way. But a few months latter I noticed his fur was coming back, a little thin at first then more and more till it was all back.

If my cats fur grew back after that. I think yours will too. You should take your cat to the vet, to rule out other possibilities and to know for sure.

Your cats hair should grow back if the collar wasnt just rubbing on his skin for a long time. But, if it was on for a long time and got to his skin and rubbed on that it may not grow back unfortunately.

Of coarse......you may want to let you cats fur breeth until its fully grown back......its not harmful in any way, but if the collar is rubbing on bar skin around his neck, it may get uncomfortable for him.

awww....he's not disfigured...I'm sure he's still a really nice looking cat. All depends...I'm sure it would grow back because it wasn't on for that long.
