At what point do you say something to get their attention again? At what point should you complain? At what point should you walk out or walk away when being ignored?

I'm assuming you mean in business.

As a waitress, I totally feel the pressure to actually be right with someone when I tell them "I'll be right with you." At work today, I had some ladies walk in when all of my tables are full and it was taking me a little while to meet each of their demands on top of the other customers' who were already there. They were really upset and said some nasty things to me, then left me like a two dollar tip (at a nice restaraunt). It gets really stressful and I want to cry sometimes... lol... but it really makes my job easier when people are patient.

In my situation, I try my absolute hardest to please everyone. Their tips are my paycheck because I make absolute crap hourly. But it's just not possible to be perfect for everyone simultaneously.

If you can see that the person trying to help you is really busy then try to be patient. But you should never have to wait more than 5-10 minutes for something simple (like if you were in a restaraunt, a refill or a menu or an extra fork).

If you are really annoyed then it's best to kinda signal to the person that you are getting restless, but don't be an overbearing jerk. The people behind the counter are people just like you. Complain if things get really out of hand, but I would much rather leave and find business elsewhere. It doesn't matter how angry you are and how good it feels to vent, it is more than likely just going to make the people working get more upset and then they'll just make fun of you later.

Um it all depends I wouldn't wait any longer then 2 minutes if I had just walked in and they seen me first and the phone rang, and I have said something before! and was pis sed off and was rude and told her uh excuse me I was here first you can take that phone call later! of course she gave me a snotty look but I didn't freaking care! I've also been forward about people cutting in line to be waited on! After the people at the front desk seen me waiting there! Bastards!!!! you shouldn't wait any longer then 2 minutes if you are the first one there! Never walk away from being ignored I would go up and say um excuse me I would like to speak with your manager please! That will really get a quick response and if they say oh I'm sorry is there anything I can help you with say No I've been waiting on you long enough I want to see your manager lol. good luck out there

They know you're there if your standing there. A regular wait is like 5-15 min. But, if they walk away you should complain

In my case i give them precisely 3.37 nano-seconds. A single beat of a hummingbirds wing. Then I do something crazy to get their immediate, undivided attention like break something valuable or swear loudly and kick a chair. Failing this, I squat like a panther, poised to attack its prey, and then crying a bloodcurdling wail I pounce on them sinkiing my claws into their flesh, ripping their clothes to tatters. After that they will either be dead or catatonic, either way they'll be in a vegetative state. If they need an ambulance you know exactly what to say, don't you... 'I'll be right with you'..

Depending on what the person is doing, but it's kinda hard to say when to leave. Depending on the importance to me and what the person is doing i would wait longest if the subject is important like 4 hours+ max. If it's for something less important 30 minutes max.

It is hard to be patient, but you know at some point we all do this. I think you should have the patience to allow the person the chance to get to whatever you need. Don't look for something to complain about.

depends on the situation. If it looks very very busy around, then its going to be based on how quickly they can free themselves up. If they say that while they're talking on the phone to a friend.... seconds.

That said... saying "I'll be right with you" is another example of not using our language effectively.

Better would be to say "I'll be with you as soon as I can help the others before you". At least that way you'd actually know what they mean and could judge the situation rather than them.

I would give them 5 min. max. Of course this depends entirely on how busy the person is. If I can see they're extremely busy I would be a little bit more patient. If they're not busy and ignoring me on purpose I'd give them about 3 min.

It depends on how busy they are. If they're juggling a counter, the phone, etc., and there are several people ahead of you, it would be rude of you not to wait your turn ... they're only able to wait on one person at a time. If they are just talking to a friend or acquantice, I would say go ahead and complain to a manager.

It depends - if they are genuinely busy then give them a break and wait. If they are obviously not busy and are just ignoring you, then I'd say 5 mins is enough. At that point, ask to speak to their manager/boss.
