Interesting question... its ok to agree to disagree on the immigration issues - respectfully. However, there are a few bad apples on all sides of this discussion that make a bad name for the rest. The individual who asked the question you referenced is not a fair representation of most of the rest of us that have issue with illegal aliens. Likewise, if I see someone making comments that are racist towards me, I don't hold it against everyone else. Each person is responsible only for themselves, and their own conduct.

I have never encountered a single person that wasn't racist in some way, even the most liberal and open-minded people have revealed some glimmer of stereotypical, bigoted or outright racist behaviour/thoughts whether or not they realize it or do it intentionally or hurtfully. If you have someone that's actively racist then I feel the lesser of two evils would be the publicly known racist who has no problem sharing their opinion. I would rather know who and what I'm dealing with upfront than try to second guess what they're hiding or whether they're telling a lie to my face while thinking something else entirely. My co-worker has actively said that she hates all Japanese, Scottish, Irish and considers South Asians and Blacks to be the worst blight on our country. I think she's narrow-minded, uneducated, supremacist and we mix like water and oil, especially as I am part Scottish, but there we go. I prefer her with her blunt honesty to one of my other co-workers who is very much a closet racist. With my co-worker I know which subjects to simply avoid and I have no false expectations of her, she's laid everything out and I've seen the worst; she's not a nice person but she's honest. With my other co-worker she's hidding so much and I feel I am constantly dancing on hot coals around her, she lets a lot of racist remarks slip and interacting with her just leaves this nasty taste in my mouth because everything screams 'liar' and 'snake' despite her claims of being liberal and open-minded. If she lies about her own beliefs and opinions then who's to say she doesn't lie in other areas as well? I know I'm a bit racist but I also -know- that my racism is wrong and unfounded, it isn't directed at any one group in particular, it doesn't impact on my day-to-day life and it doesn't effect how I feel about people in general but it's still there and it's the basic fact that I am more comfortable amongst my own race than any other race. In a multi-racial, multi-cultural society that's wrong but I grew up in a largely single-race area with a single-race family and that is the race I identify with and feel most comfortable with, that's the race I feel I belong with. On a human level I don't care what race you are, if you're a decent person then so am I and I'll respect you for it whether we're friends, family or otherwise. It's not that I would reject or react negatively with other races, it's not that I treat them any differently day-to-day or think one race has more worth than another but it's not accepting the idea of one and the same human race all standing together in an all-encompassing society.

Aparently there was enough 'hate' in that question to get it removed.

I think it's easier to respect a person who only levels charges of racism at persons who actually act like racists, than one who calls anyone in a group of people he doesn't like 'racists' and then, when they do not cooperate by acting like racists labels them 'closet racists.'

IMHO, race is not the most important issue in the immigration debate. It does inevitably come up. Those who value diversity, for instance, should hesitate to support illegal immigration that comes, overwhelmingly, from a single culture, over legal immigration that comes from all over the world. Some racist organizations have also chimed in on the debate. The pathetic remnants of the KKK try to jump on the bandwagon, for instance, and the reconquista types at La Raza are prominent on the other side, as well.

The best thing we could do with the racists is to ignore them. Those who just answer a question with a thoughtless slur are easy to ignore, since thier answers have no weight behind them and are quickly reported and deleted.

Actually, it is the 'pros' who call us racists continually, not the other way around. I wouldn't respect either one. I certainly don't respect La Raza, and they are very open about it. They use the race card, and so do the pros, and that is a sad arguement. They use it when they have no valid arguement.

Look in the dictionary and see what the definition of racism is. Hispanics and Americans are not a race. La Raza calls itself a race, erroneously.

This is just ONE of a group of evil troll people. There are some people in society who think like this as well. However, most of us, are NOT racist. I am sure that there are Pro-illegal racist as well. But most are NOT.

Klansman are nasty little racist that oppose illegal immigration. This is the only subject I agree with them on. I do not believe in a master race.

It is also the Klan's right to be racist as LEGAL citizens.

Why do you keep implying that most "anti-illegals" are basing their actions on race and not on THE LAW? Or an inherent sense of right and wrong? Or maybe national sovereignty?

You dig out ONE racist idiot, whom I've personally reported 4 times already, and you ignore all of the other perfectly valid points made by others.

The fact that you contribute the words of one to blanket all says a lot more about you than anything else in your b.s. rant.

What is a pro-illegal anyway and how on earth can you have a pro-illegal racist? Wouldn't a racist want to keep all but their own out?
I don't believe anyone arguing the other side of this is pro-illegal. We just see it differently. Should we call you pro-like only your own old fashioned kind? Or Prolitariate. BTW this is for the Brautwerst lady not the asker. There are all kinds of names that can be cast but most of them only serve to polarize and do nothing to further discussion or ideals.

This person is a troll that's trying to make anti-illegals look bad. Either that or he's fishing for people with similar views in order to get them put on a government watch list. I am anti-illegal and I don't claim him or share his supposed views.

I think you are probably both people. I also know for a fact that 99% of the people in this country don't agree with that garbage you spew on this board.

Think about what this guy is doing. He is calling us racist.. he doesn't know us. But neither does he know we are one of the most diverse countries in the world.. and one of the most sucessful. So what ever his garbage load is.. don't let him drop it on you.
