it all depends on a lot of factors...
first, how trained is the force you are working with? how well can they shoot? do you need something so they can throw a lot of hot metal down range or can they get some more precise shots in?
what is your mission? do you need to kill or can you just take them out of the fight?
whats your distance?
so many things can play into it.. there is no way to say this or that or whatever is the best weapon.
i like the m-4. it gives little kick so i can put a lot of rounds downrange quick. its got a deicent range, but its short at the same time so it works in urban environments too. it also has fully auto so you can unload if you need.

M16A2/A4, or M4 Hands down. In 27 Years service, I've had no problems with them attributable to the weapon itself.
AK Handguards can Ignite from Prolonged Firing as there are no Heat shields on them.
Sight Radius sucks, decreasing Hit Probability.
Safety is entirely too noisey, Ergomonimcs suck as well. You have to remove your firing hand from the weapon to take the safety off.
Magazines are incapable of loading by Stripper clips, and are a Bear to load by thumb.
No Optical sight suites with retain zero mountings, no ability to mount Night Target Designators, Bayonet is crap, Grenade Launchers a Joke.

In my expierience def the M4, it didnt jam even though it was covered in sand. It was very reliable, durable and small...perfect for what we needed it for. I believe the M-16 has too long a barrell and is akward to fire in an urban enviroment. Plus its hard to pull out of a humvee in a firefight. the m4 personally was the best choice to put into combat hands.

HK 416, they arent issued on a huge scale, but they worked all of the bugs out of the M4 without having to worry about operator familiarization.

Funny, I thought you would have discovered all the information you needed to know when doing the "Foreign Armaments", section of your training, when you became an "Operative" in the Australian S.A.S., or did you miss that day's training and the subsequent refresher courses??

The AK is the better weapon but yes accuracy is low if you zero it and use controlled bursts it will have a lot better accuracy.

I love my Ak-74 dearly. It has NEVER let me down. In 5 years, I have never had a fail to feed or fail to eject. How many M16's can say that?
