By the time a woman with a lower back tattoo reaches her 70 there will be an entire generation of old women with lower back tattoos.

These tattoos are common enough now to be cliche. They will be just as common (and EVEN funnier) when all of the women who are now 20 somethings finally reach their 70's.

I work in a nursing home. I have never seen an older lady with a tattoo. If I did see a female resident with ANY tattoo, I would be surprised. I'm actually still surprised when I see them on men. Mostly the men that have them were in the military. Usually they are very faded. The generation that I work with just didn't commonly get tattooed- especially women. Although one day I imagine it will be very common. Once it is very common- the tattooed person will been seen as just another patient/resident.

Tattoo's have become so much more accepted over the past twenty years. This leads me to believe that the people without will be a smaller percentage. At 70 the only thing a doctor or nurse might think is what great stories you have to tell about your life. Tattoo's are just a form of expression...

They will think, ho-hum, another 70 year old woman with a lower back tattoo. We see them every day, these days. No big deal. Ever since it got popular 50 years ago, lots of women got them. In fact, when we see a woman above the age of 20, any more, without a tattoo, we wonder why.

Just like in the old days (back in 2007) when you saw a woman without even 1 set of piercings in her ears and wondered, "Why doesn't she have pierced ears?"

If you can give me one good reason why someone of ANY age should give a sh*t what other people think of their bodily decisions, I'll address your question. But I don't think you can.

Things that don't count:
-Employment (the tattoo is not generally visible on the lower back, but even if it were in a visible spot, employers are getting less and less likely to discriminate against the tattooed - when I'm 70, in 2059, I doubt it will matter at all).
-Influence on children/grandchildren (tattoos and piercings are phsychologically harmless - if anything, they can bring a calmer state of mind by teaching control over one's own body).
-How it will look as we age (we'll all be ugly and wrinkly whether we're tattooed or not - what difference does it make?).

Tattooing having been popular all over the world for centuries in cultures all over the world, and especially now that it's considered mainstream here in the United States, I don't think it'll be any big deal... doctors and nurses have tattoos too, you know.

It shouldnt matter how she will be "seen" by her doctor or nurse, if shes seeking medical attention. A 70 year old body (ugh) is a 70 year old body (ugh again) with or "without" a tattoo.

Think of all the women who have lower back tattoos today. By the time we all turn 70, don't you think it'll be even more accepted? Sounds like someone needs to get off their high horse. If you don't want a lower back tattoo, that's fine, but don't judge people just because they have them.

Just like eveyone else? Actually, at 70 I intend to celebrate by getting another tattoo. I have 8 now and I'm 38. I usually get them around my birthdays now that I'm older.
