I have two kittens 9 months old with seperate litter boxes. My female kitten will use the box to poop in, and sometimes pee, but only after one or two uses, even if its clean, she will pee out side the box. She doesnt poop outside, she goes in the box for that, her problem is only with going pee. Sometimes its in different spots around the litter box, what can I do?

I know its not a medical/health issue, she has been checked.

My first instincts are you really may not be cleaning the litter box like you should..but if you are...you might also need to change litter....sometimes even though you clean it...they still might not like the way the litter feels or smells.

Cats are pretty picky.

First of all, are you making all the cats use the same litter box? If so, don't. Get separate boxes. That could be one reason they're peeing everywhere. Cats don't like to use another cats litter box. Second, it could very well be because your cats are now around a new cat and vice verso. When cats are scared or mad at you, they do tend to pee everywhere other than the cat box. I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the cat being in heat. When you do move out, the problem will be fixed. Also, if the litter box is dirty then cats will go elsewhere. Make sure you have a clean cat box and get separate ones for your cats. Hopefully that will help some.

I have a cat (not kitten) that started going outside the litter box in different areas around the house. After a while of this, I noticed blood in her urnine (a pink tint and sometimes darker), so I took her to the vet. She had (still has-2 mos later) a urinary tract infection. Going to get some more Clavamox tablets tomorrow hoping the 2nd go round of antibiotics will get rid of it. My brother gave me some solution he ordered online to get rid of the pee smell and it works. Not sure why a kitten would be doing that when it has been around the other kitten. I have 2 cats as well and both share 1 litter box. The older cat was approx. 5 yrs old when we got the 2nd kitten. She still used the litter box fine. The only problem I've had is since one of my cats got the UI. Good Luck!

add a third litterbox. The recommendation is usually 1.5 litterboxes per cat.

adding another litterbox is the quick and cheap way to find out if you have a behavioural problem, or a medical one.

if the issue doesn't resolve immediately, a trip to the vet would be in order to make sure there isn't a medical issue that is causing her to not want to use the litter box. If going in the box causes pain, often cats will associate the box with the pain and start going outside the box.

Definitely get another litterbox in the house. The answerer who reported 1.5 litterboxes per cat is correct.
Trying a different litter can help.
One that is finer like sand and is fragrance free is usually prefered.
Get a feliway diffuser.
Its a great tool in reducing stress related behaviors.
Watch for any changes in eating, drinking and eliminating.
Sometimes cats develop litterbox aversions after experiencing pain or stress while in the litterbox.
So try to make sure the coast stays clear when the cat goes into the litterbox.
Watch for any changes in gait or activity to rule out pain.
Hope it helps
