Being a volunteer is beneficial to you as well as who ever the person you are helping. It makes you feel good to know that you are doing some thing that makes a difference.
There are days that I can be in a real bad mood. Get to my volunteer job (un paid) and it makes my day better.

Well I Have always felt that I would be a social worker since I first started doing volunteering. And I'm satisfied too. Apart from that even if u think abt money then being a volunteer u will get some money that would be enough for the simple living. This can only be done by a satisfied person. This means they are happy. So If I were u I would also be a satisfied and happy person.

I think so,yes. Volunteers bring with them unique life experiences and special skills and interests to develop and enrich their areas of work. They bring an objective view to the work being performed and thus may often produce real insights into the improvement of a service provided.
Perhaps most importantly, volunteers engender in those for whom they are caring a real sense of dignity. When a resident or a client realizes that a volunteer is there to care for them for no apparent reason, such as a physical or material reward, they can only conclude that they as a individual must be important enough to warrant someone’s time and interest. This factor alone has a tremendous value in communicating love, care & support to someone in need.
As you get older, you just give back. You know your're not going to be here very long & you're not taking it with you. So what can you do while you're here to help sustain the next generation & for your kids & their kids?
Volunteering changes their perspective on life, getting more than they're getting. You have a different perspective of what's important & what's not important. The important things are not important.

Well it has to be close, in order to be a volunteer you have to love people and you have to want to make them smile, and you can't make people smile to much if you are not happy yourself. Sure you may have some bad days but all in all most volunteers are very content and a very gentle people who of course smile alot. Life is just easier when you smile, don't you think.

no, you must work for money. That is an advice one of my collegues gave to me. He never volunteered. But I don't follow always this rule. Somehow, asking technical questions on YA is like volunteering.

many of my teachers here in Honduras are volunteer... and let me tell ya they don't look happy or act ''happy'' at all but it depends on the character or the mood of the volunteer ..

Well think about it... -Wouldn't you rather be a Volunteer- than a Slave??! One CHOOSES his "situation" & the other one can't. People who don't have any choices- don't tend to be very Happy. Volunteers can pick & choose- so they tend to be pretty motivated & Happy. :)
