ok well im a cypriot and i live in the uk, our weddings like many other cultures tend to be a little big and over the top. i think in the end the wedding cost near the £30,000 mark, which is relatively cheap compared to some. this is because you tend to have about 600 guests. all the cypriot community and work friends etc. you pay for the venue, a sit down 4 course meal, allll the alcohol which usually consists of wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks.the entertainment and all the other things like flowers, bridesmaid dresses etc etc. weddings are very expensive and if i had the chance again i would have much rather taken a few choice friends and family abroad somewhere and just tied the knot that way, i thinks its a huge waste of money but i know our parents wanted to do this for us. shop around for things like venue, especially florists they can cost so much money. you could hire your partners suit. actually most things are available to hire now. you could have a buffett for the after party which will be cheaper than a meal. can u give us a few more details about yourself. then maybe we can offer some more help. it also depends where u live. like are u in the uk. wedding dresses in most bridal shops cost around £500 upwards. thats not including tiaras shoes veils. like i said give us some more info. bottom line is weddings can be expensive.

I am planning my wedding now and my budget is 10,000. As of now I am still on budget, but things do pop up! If you would like to do a budget breakdown then go to the knot.com and they have a budget planner. I think the things that are costing alot would be food and photography. Here is what I spent on those things:
Food- 3,000
Hall-800 (usually 1,000, but my mom knows the owner)
Photography-1,000 (a family member is doing it. Normal costs can start at 2,000)
Congrats!!!

Getting married on June 8th, 2008. So far, we are going to be spending $11,000.00 just for the wedding and reception. The dress is gorgeous and was a steal at $400. Got my veil for $30 (the same one cost 188 at davids bridal, but I got it on ebay for WAY less), my headpiece was 22 (another steal). Invites are going to run about 150-200, the reception stuff I have bought, so far, has ran about 100. Flowers are probably going to run about 200 (gerbera daisies for the BM's...my bouqet is included at the wedding place). Little things just add up...toasting flutes (48), cake cutters, etc. If you are paying for your BM's hair to be done, that's an expense, too. Good luck...hope I have helped!

In total, my wedding cost $15000.
I was married in a formal morning ceremony in downtown NYC, our reception was a wine and champagne cocktail reception with white gloved appi's and pastries and cheese table and wedding cake and seated pianist that lasted 2 1/2 hours for 54 people. This was 9 years ago, the price has doubled since then for our wedding.
