Depends on what kind of alcohol you want to make. I'm looking into doing some home brewing.. I'm thinking of purchasing this equipment.

It entirely depends on what beverage you want. Beer, wine, spirits etc. I make home brew beer which entails buying a 30 litre brewer and accessories such as a bottle capper and syphon device etc. Sterilise everything. Buy a commercial brew base from the grocer. It has the instructions included such as put in 1Kg sugar, a can of brew mixture, 4 litres of boiling water, stir with a sterile spoon, add 18 litres of cold water and stir again, add the sachet of yeast and stir again. Screw the lid on and put something over the hole in the lid to keep vinegar flies out. Wait 6 days and bottle it into sterile bottles to which has been added the amount of sugar required for the size of the bottle you use. Wait at least 3 weeks and you can drink it. (I wait 3 months for taste). The initial outlay in Australia is about $100 to set up. I bottle into 375ml bottles (stubbies) and get around 60 stubbies for $15. As against the liquor store for the similar article would be about $80. You can also make Ginger Beer, Stout etc in the same brewer. In Au it is completely legal so long as you don't sell the brew.

Well it's illegal to make spirits. But you can make beer and wine Personally I recommend beer. I haven't tried wine yet but am looking forward to it. With the right ingredients you can make a pretty strong beer plus it tastes better, is better for you, and cheaper than regular store bought. As a home brewer I am limited to 250 gallons a year. I make 5 gallon batches which is equal to 53 pints. Plenty of craft brew for me and my friends (which oddly enough I have more of since I started making my own...lol)

I just saw on The Today Show earlier this week a place in CA that your can make your own wine. You get to create the blend you like best (from picking, to crushing, to blending, to bottling) and even name it. It costs about $4,000, but if you've got the spare change and that's your thing. . .

It's easier, cheaper, and faster to buy. Otherwise, keep it under a hundred gallons a year (I think) and buy a kit.

google home made distilleries.
My brother made his own wine in the 70's, with two 5 gallon water bottles, rubber hoses, and sugar.

Well, first you need a clean bathtub....just joking...I KNOW there are books online that actually give you step by step instructions. I would try Amazon.com- they serve all of my reference needs.
