Well, yeah. They don't require proof that anything the person says is true... the person only has to sound confident enough to encourage them to have that same confidence. They don't look for results either, they can believe that what ever the dude is selling is "on the way," be it miracle cures, emotional healing, or just getting into heaven.

Oh, yes. The biggest scam artist being the Catholic organization with it's money making schemes. Holy bones, statues, miracles...even when the Bible warns repeatedly that such 'miracles' are not from him. The end of the true miracles was marked by the death of the last apostle. Paul states firmly that the way to eternal life is in fact 'true and accurate knowledge of God's word'. Those who rely on religious leaders are unprotected from these scams.

I am not too sure if I would call them true Christians as the bible calls them but maybe they are searching for an easy way to Salvation and call themselves a Christian but fall for these false teachers and scammers. The scammers know people want to hear good words that tickle there ears and so that is exactly what they do.

Because they are willing to accept and trust people that they percieve to be like themselves, particularly in religion which is supposed to be pure.

It's an emotional ploy. And one that has more room to work with than other emotion-jerkers since in many areas there is only one or maybe two dominant religions. (More people who are targets, to the eyes of the scammer.)

Edit: Oh, sorry, I thought you were talking about religious scams. You mean scams in general. I would say no to the general claim... I'm sure in areas other than religion they are more capable of rational doubt. They'd have to be, or they would get scammed constantly...

Well, just about all of the 419ers that have sent me their scams have made references to God, so I'll assume so, just because I'd think there are enough attempts to make 419 scams as efficient as possible in general format... I'll assume it's true until a Nigerian advises me otherwise.

As for why it would be true... I really don't know...

Christians have been conned for thousands of years, the very name christian means that they have already been conned, therefor they are already proven as susceptible for further scams. Its like the stage hypnotist doing a few tests before he picks out the most suggestible volunteers,
