When it is not ?LONG BEACH Students walked out of an immigration debate at California State University, Long Beach, on Tuesday to protest Minuteman co-founder Jim Gilchrist and what they said was "hate mongering" aimed at dividing their campus.
Gilchrist, of Aliso Viejo, was invited by the Conservative Student Union to debate immigrant rights advocate Enrique Morones, founder of the San Diego-based Border Angels. The event galvanized student leaders and faculty to form a coalition in support of human rights and in opposition to the Minuteman Project, which they called a "racist" and "extremist" movement.
About 300 students and faculty gathered on the green outside the auditorium where the debate was held, carrying signs reading "Racists go home!" and wearing fliers taped to their shirts with the names of the countries their parents and grandparents came from.
When the debate began, the auditorium was packed with students. But the room quickly emptied when Morones challenged students to walk out in protest during his opening remarks, leaving Gilchrist – who wore a bulletproof vest over his business suit – on the stage alone.
"We cannot tolerate this kind of behavior. What they're doing is a hate movement," Morones said, while objecting to the format of the debate, which had a friend of Gilchrist's as moderator.
Gilchrist gave his remarks and spent the next two hours sharing his views with the three dozen students who remained in the auditorium, peppering him with questions about his views. Gilchrist highlighted the importance of freedom of speech and assembly for the country and anyone who is here, regardless of their immigration status. He underscored the need for English as a common language and the intensity of the country's debate over immigration.http://www.ocregister.com/news/gilchrist-debate-students-1922090-campus-immigration

The one thing you have to understand is that only about 10% of the country is PRO ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, and of that about 60% of that 10% are ILLEGAL INVADERS anyway.
Most are uneducated and do not understand the laws or the reasoning around peoples desire to eliminate ILLEGAL INVADERS from this country.
America is tired of supporting all these ILLEGAL INVADERS, we are tired of watching out tax dollars being spent on people that do not even belong here.
PRO ILLEGALS are hypocrities and will say anything just to get their point across, when in reality, there is really no substantial evidence that ILLEGAL INVADERS benefit this country in any way, there is acctually LARGE QUANITIES of evidence that support the opposite.

They are so hypocritical and unaware of what is really happening. Notice none of these people condemn La Raza. Probably don't even know about it. We need more people to go to debates like this, who point this out to these students. The need for a bulletproof vest is unsettling and tells us that things are really out of hand. So much for freedom of speech. Yes, only if it is on their side of the fence.

Liberals champion free speach, it's one of the great foundations of the modern liberal movement. Except for 'hate speach,' of course, which is defined as any political speach they disagree with that they can twist to remotely touch upon race, religion, gender, or orientation.
Conservatives, similarly, support free speech, since it's right there in the Constitution, and conservatives /love/ the constitution. Well, except for obscene speech, of course. They can't define obscenity, but they 'know it when they see it.'

Typical liberal behavior. Tout the free speech as long as it is on your side and when you agree with it. When it doesn't fit your agenda you call the source names and "take your ball and go home". Immature people cannot or will not consider both sides without trying to cast the source with unfavorable adjectives. It is a real shame.

That's not a free speech issue. A free speech issue would be if the school didn't let him speak. Speaking and nobody listening just means what your saying isn't popular.

I see things that don't make sense every day. Cries of racism that are unfounded etc. Unfortunately that seems to be a battle cry anymore. Freedom of speech only if I agree. We've truly become backward in our thinking.

Of course they walked out! 75% of them are in the country illegally. Good thing California pays for all those illegals to attend college.

My guess is that they left because they knew they couldn't defend their position. I wonder if those people realize that when they fallaciously call a person a racist they only dilute and diminish claims of true racism.
