I did weight watchers. it is great you can lose 1-2 lbs a week . it is an easy diet because you can still eat everything. you just have to work on a points system. I did this last year lost 40 lbs in 4.5 months. And it has been a life style change as well. I have fallen off a little but have not reverted back completely.

It's not safe to have rapid weight loss, PLUS you will just gain it back and more when you are done. The better thing for the long term so you will always look and feel good is to make a lifestyle change. Depending on your lifestyle habits now, this may or may not involve some dramatic changes for you. If you do it for your health and for the long term, it will have a greater effect over time and you will be more likely to stick with it when you see yourself constantly making improvements.

Make healthy eating choices:

Wean yourself off the empty carbohydrates - processed sugars like white sugar, white bread, corn syrup, beet sugar, high fructose corn syrup, etc. This means cutting back on sodas, sweets, white bread, pastas, fried foods (because of the breading), and foods that have these in them. The more of these you are able to remove from your dietary intake, the better you will feel overall, and the most immediate visible results you will see.

Reduce your intake of starches like french fries, potatoes, corn starch.

Reduce the amount of fried foods you eat, not only because of the breading, but also because of the calories and fat added when food is fried.

Increase the amount of vegetables and fruits that you consume, especially fresh foods. Go for the colorful veggies as they are also rich in vitamins and antioxidants. The more (naturally) colorful your plate, the healthier it is for you.

PORTION CONTROL! Just because the restaurant gives you a heaping plate of food doesn't mean you have to eat all of that in one sitting!!! Learn what a single serving of each food item is and do not eat more than that. Learn to listen to your body and STOP eating when you start to feel full. If you overeat, you will pay for it later when you have indigestion or heartburn, etc.

In a society where we are accustomed to receiving oversized portions, a plate of food with actual serving sizes looks like it will never fill you up. Try it and see how it actually does fill you up! You will likely feel like you are starving for the first few days when you start taking control of the portions you shovel into your mouth. Just grab a little healthy protein to carry you to the next meal - soy cakes (like rice cakes), yogurt, peanut butter, nuts.

Only eat when you are hungry, eat slowly enough so you can actually feel yourself getting full, and stop when you are close to feeling full.

Exercise! Oh that dreaded evil word! I HATE exercise. So far, I have been able to actually maintain climbing stairs at work every day. I have been doing this for 6 weeks and I can easily make it to the 10th floor - I'm usually losing my breath at 6th floor. Walk more places, or walk around the office complex. Take the stairs whenever you can. Every little bit helps.
