First, a stout is a type of ale not lager.
Second, your friend my be right.. Guinness in Ireland makes a thick molasses like substance that they ship all over the world. Local brewers add this stuff to local water sources and actually brew the beer. This is why Guinness is able to get away with being called an import, since most of the ingredients are imported. So Nigeria may have a local Guinness brewer.

Guiness is the "national' drink of Ireland. It is brewed and canned in the Arthur Guiness Factory in Dublin. Its a strong brew, and sometimes recommended for medicinial use!

I think you are referring to Guinness Foreign Export stout,brewed under licence in Nigeria;it has also been brewed in Estonia (allegedly)
