To make my chore aged kiddos do daily chores, including their rooms, they have a chart. They don't do their chart, then they get no tv and no video games. Unfortunately, this is my boys' currency. They can't live without their tvs and video games.... Make a favorite activity of your kids available depending on whether they clean their rooms. If they don't, they lose that activity for the rest of the day (for not doing it, or lying about it and getting caught) and for the next day. Then you just keep consistent about it and they'll learn. It's kinda late to be teaching a 19 yr old to be cleaning his room though, don't you think? Best of luck!

The 19 year old can keep a clean room, or get out of the house. This is practice for real life, not a free ride until he/she decides to join the rest of us out here in the real world.

The 12 year old can either clean, or be punished. End of story. If its on the floor it can go in teh garbage... throw enough stuff away and eventually they wont have anything left to make a mess with. It doesnt take long to get the point across.

Take all thier stuff laying round on the floor and cover it someplace and tell them you threw it away, because they wouldnt sparkling thier room.. at the same time as they start up searching after thier issues, supply them the belongings you hid.. no count number number how lengthy it takes do not get that stuff out or enable them understand it really is hid..

My kids have to have their rooms cleaned by 6pm Sunday night each week or they don't get allowance.
For day to day cleaning I try to get them to clean something up before they move on to something else. If it's really bad, they can't go out to play until their room is cleaned.

But once my son stopped getting allowance when he turned 13, we stopped enforcing the clean room thing. Its his place, if he wants to live in a pig sty, that's his choice. He's pretty good at taking the initiative and cleaning it when he can't walk from his door to his bed.

I would never forget that when i was younger like 12 year old, my sister and i were always messy in the bedroom, and my mom keep asking us to clean our room. So one day she walk in my room took a trash can and put all the stuff on the floor in the trashcan and took it outside. we were crying , my mom told us well i ask you guys to clean your room so you didnt listen to us. so couple of hours she change her mind and told us to take all stuff out from the trash lucky it was in the plastic bag so it wont get dirty. so we put all things away . so when my mom ask us to clean our room and we were all clean so fast before my mom come in the room and check it all.. and its works!
