I have to disagree. The constitution has been amended so much already that it is a shadow of its former self. But in regards to anchor babies, it should be amended again. When people are taking advantage of our systems we need to do something about it. These people come here to give their children a better life, but in the end the parents get deported and the kid goes through our foster system at our expense. How is that a better life, growing up with no parents?

Right now they should because that is what the Constitution says; however, there is a move a foot to revise it.
Currently, illegals play on the emotions of some by getting into the country and producing "anchor babies" in the belief that it will ultimately result in their obtaining residency. Due to the magnitude of the problem and it's ill effects on children, citizenship based solely on the location of birth must be eliminated. It will eliminate one more motivation for people to break federal law.
I believe that such a amendment would be ratified by the states in the current environment.

As far as I know, under the law, any child born on American soil is a natural-born citizen, regardless of the parents status.

Society is always changing, and some of the Constitution does not fit society today. This is one area in which the Constitution should be amended.

No, this is one of the reasons why the come here. Once their kids qualify for citizenship they crowd our public sectors, which is bad for people who were legally born here

Yes, the anchor babies should have citizenship. However, the illegal criminal alien parents should be deported and have the right to take their citizen child home with them.
