I know I will get a lot of negative feedback from the die hard military kooks but I have several other career oportunities that will pay me far more than I am currently recieving. When I enlisted I was aware of the pay and thought I could manage but its absolutely ridiculous what Im making. I can't afford anything and I feel like Im a 12 year old getting my allowance for cleaning my room and mowing the lawn.

I am not afraid of going to war or anything like that, I have a college degree, Im 25 years old, and Im not able to live this lifestyle of a poverty stricken 18 year old any more. If anyone has any ideas for me or can give me any stories it would be greatly appreciated.

You may find a way out but they can always find a way to get you back in. Read the fine print!

There is no easy way, legally. If you do something stupid to get kicked out, it will follow you. The government takes the enlistment contract very seriously.

The military does treat you like 12 year olds...I know, I was in the Navy for 6 years. Nothing to be done about it.

You signed, now do your duty. I found the paycheck to be enough, especially considering that most things are covered financially. Much of your take home pay is yours to spend or save.

Of course, it might not compare in the least to a job you could get with your college degree. Maybe you shouldn't have joined in the first place.

There are ways out, but it is going to be tricky. The best thing you can do is start taking the request up the ladder, but you have to know you will meet opposition from every angle.

1) they don't want to make it easy for anyone to just walk out and 2) They don't like the image of someone leaving the military because they can't make a living out of it.

A few other options are a medical qualification. If you can find some reason medically as to why you should not be on active duty, wanting early leave from the military would be easier.

Another method of making it easier might be to say up front you are willing to fore go all benefits and pension you might be entitled to.

Good luck

Sure, if you are willing to pay the consequences. Your DD-214 will show your service as not being completed satisfactorily and that will lead most employers who view it, and if they are govt contractors they will view it, to pass you over for other qualified applicants.

It is rather pathetic that you signed a contract and volunteered with full knowledge of what you were doing. Ultimately there is no good way to get out yet I am sure you will try. You say you are 25 I say grow up then.

Just leave. No big deal. Or smack an officer in the head. What's a dishonorable or bad conduct discharge? Just work for liberal wienies and you will never have a problem with that. Our country doesn't need people like you in the military. Write John Kerry, he will help you get out.

On second though, I kind of like Hibernia's answer. Go publicly gay for a few days. Offer your commanding officer a b.low j.ob. You'll get out.

Does it say energetic Reserve or energetic? in the course of the time you're at boot camp and the time you're at a school, you're technically energetic (activated reserve). Does it say that you will be reserve back at your first duty station?

So you want out of the military because you feel that you can make more money outside.

Why don't you read your own post and consider just how shallow and immature you sound?

no. you cannot just quit the Navy. you must finish out the terms of your contract. if you don't, you will be required to pay back the Navy for all the training they gave you.
