Life after Islam, the religion of peace?

According to Muhammad's Sahih Bukhari Hadith, people who leave the "religion of peace" are to be killed. The job of the "muttaween" is to hunt and kill those who leave Islam and anyone else whom Muslims dislike, such as the Danish cartoonist or the publishers of Salman Rushdie's book "The Satanic Verses".

I love how Muslims keep trying to convince us (themselves?) that Islam is peaceful.

In the eyes of history, religious toleration is the highest evidence of culture in a people. It was not until the Western nations broke away from their religious law that they became more tolerant, and it was only when the Muslims fell away from their religious law that they declined in tolerance and other evidences of the highest culture. Before the coming of Islam, tolerance had never been preached as an essential part of religion.
If Europe had known as much of Islam, as Muslims knew of Christendom, in those days, those mad, adventurous, occasionally chivalrous and heroic, but utterly fanatical outbreak known as the Crusades could not have taken place, for they were based on a complete misapprehension.

Innumerable monasteries, with a wealth of treasure of which the worth has been calculated at not less than a hundred millions sterling, enjoyed the benefit of the Holy Prophet's (Muhammad’s) Charter to the monks of Sinai and were religiously respected by the Muslims. The various sects of Christians were represented in the Council of the Empire by their patriarchs, on the provincial and district council by their bishops, in the village council by their priests, whose word was always taken without question on things which were the sole concern of their community.

The tolerance within the body of Islam was, and is, something without parallel in history; class and race and color ceasing altogether to be barriers.

(REPENTANCE OF THOSE)

A kind word of forgiveness is better than charity accompanied by insults. God is self-sufficient and merciful.

If God lacked patience and mercy, all of you would long ago have been punished. If God lacked compassion and forgiveness, none of you would have escaped.

Establish worship, give in charity, and obey the messenger that you may find mercy.

(WHY DOES MISFORTUNE HAPPEN?)
He is the One that sends down rain (even) after (men) have given up all hope, and scatters His Mercy (far and wide). And He is the Protector, Worthy of all Praise.

And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the living creatures that He has scattered through them: and He has power to gather them together when He wills.

Whatever misfortune happens to you, is because of the things your hands have wrought, and for many (of them) He grants forgiveness.

(DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE GREAT HEIGHT?‏)
If you only understood the great height! It consists in purchasing the freedom of a slave. It consists in feeding, during famines, an orphaned relative, or anyone who is starving. It consists in having faith, in encouraging others, and in exercising mercy.

(WORLD’S COMFORT)
And if We(Allah) will, We shall drown them, and there will be no shout (or helper) for them (to hear their cry for help) nor will they be saved. But its mercy from Us, and comfort for a while [we can make it eternal by returning to Allah’s way].

(ALLAH’S WARNING)
Say: "O 'Ibâdî (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allâh, verily Allâh forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. And turn in repentance and in obedience with true Faith (Islâmic Monotheism) to your Lord and submit to Him, (in Islâm), before the torment comes upon you, then you will not be helped. (39:53)
