If it's a fungus, like ringworm or something like that then I hope she was taking some sort of antifungal medication....
If she was taking something oral...she also should have been applying an antifungal cream or ointment.
Tinactin is used for athletes foot..but it is also an antifungal...buy some of that and see if it will work
Has she washed and soaked her hairbrushes and combs...? If not, then she is only reinfecting herself.
Has she or does she change her towel that she uses to dry her hair, frequently?
If all else fails, then she may want to go to a dermatologist...they are pretty good at these sorts of things.
Hand washing is another thing she can do to help herself.

Fungus can be treated using medication, but if the conditions that the fungus like to live in don't change it may well not go, or it may return.
Maybe look to her diet - if she has a lot of sugar that can give things 'something to eat'.
Or check this article for alternatives, tea tree oil sounds promising (I'd pass on the wee therapy though!)

Scalp conditions are dermatological concerns. Your scalp is part of your skin. Often, the first try at curing any type of fungal infection won't be successful. You should advise her to go back to her doctor. Fungal infections of the scalp can result in hair loss if left unattended.

It sounds like your friend possibly has tinea capitis (known as ringworm), if she has talked and seen her doctor and nothing is working she could try tenactin, or another form of 'athletes foot' cream. Ringworm is a fungus that can spread very easily, and using these kinds of creams/sprays will help it to go away!

The most powerful treatment available without a prescription is Denorex shampoo. This stuff is nasty - it has an awful smell and it burns, but it usually works.

if your friend has taken the meds for about 4 or 5 days and it's not showing signs of getting better, then they should definitely call/see the doc again!!
