The majority of Mormons do not. The LDS Church (the largest Mormon church) passed through a few reforms and disallowed it 117 years and three months ago. Most presiding leaders had stopped practicing polygamy by the mid-1920's. Joseph F. Smith was the last LDS prophet-president to practice polygamy; he cohabitated with his remaining 4 wives until his death in 1918. Today, less than 1% of the members of the LDS Church live in active polygamous relationships, and those that do must hide it from the senior clergy (and often even their bishops) or risk excommunication.

[Edit: Bridesmaid: Where did you get that 70% figure? over 35% of the world is Christian and doesn't believe in polygamy, plus Reformed Jews, most Atheists/Agnostics (in US/Europe anyway), Theravada Buddhists, Shintoists, Jainists, etc... in fact, less than half of the world believes in polygamy]

"TRUE Mormons" (as they describe themselves; those that claim to follow ALL of the teachings revealed to Joseph Smith), however, are allowed to. There are less than 80,000 "Fundamentalist Mormons" left. These belong to several dozen different factions, each claiming to be the "true" branch of Mormonism, continued after what they term the "apostasy" of the main LDS branch in 1890. Although LDS Mormons claim that members of these sects aren't truly Mormons, the fact of the matter is that they are. They claim to be the true church descended from Joseph Smith, and adhere to the Book of Mormon as sacred scripture. The largest and most well-known of these sects are the following:

*Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS- Hildale, UT; Colorado City, AZ; British Columbia, Canada; and El Dorado, TX)
*True and Living Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (TLC- Manti, UT)
*Latter Day Church of Christ (Kingston Clan- Ogden, UT; and Logan, UT)
*Apostolic United Brethren (AUB- Draper, UT; Eagle Mountain, UT; and Pleasant Grove, UT: these don't allow any incestuous or underage unions, and are regarded as the "high-class" polygamists in Utah)
*Centennial Park Ward (Centennial Park, AZ)
*Nielson/Naylor group: (West Valley City, UT; and Magna, UT)
*Righteous Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Modena, UT; and Tonopah, NV)
*United Latter-day Church of Christ (Tucker Group- Winter Quarters, NE; Layton, UT; Evanston, WY)
*The Church of Mormon (no official headquarters, but meet in group members' homes in Salt Lake and Tooele counties in Utah)

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have banned polygamy since 1890. There has been misrepresentation of Mormons by ignorant prejudiced hateful people who make fun of us. Just ignore them.

Are you really asking this question or are you bashing?

I am Mormon (LDS). I do not know any members who have more than one wife. I have seen the FLDS church on the news. They practice polygamy. The LDS church does not. The FLDS church is not recognized by the LDS church as mormon.

ok Kris, what information have been you listening to? The property you're relating is touching directly to the FLDS in Texas, and not the mainstream LDS church, which does no longer have something to do with those different persons. And we are no longer particularly counseled of what the way of existence of Heaven would be like. all of us know it particularly is going to be freed from sin, freed from ailment, freed from hate, freed from desire, freed from intolerance, freed from unbelievers, and greater importantly, it particularly is the place God and Jesus Christ stay. Who does not desire to be there?? As for polygamy? that's no longer something you're able to desire to understand, through fact God will shelter each and every of the questions, and each concern would be resolved in his time and in his way. Do i've got faith there will be polygamy? i think of there'll, through fact we've been instructed that the optimum degree of Heaven would be inhabited via 7 situations greater women than adult males. meaning, women are greater righteous than adult males, greater often than no longer. although, there are a number of adult males who're astounding, and rather righteous, and could receive the reward of the Celestial Kingdom. So possibly they are able to have quite a few different halves, and if their earthly spouse is likewise righteous, then she could probable be the 1st spouse. it particularly is a functional assumption, do no longer you think of!

None that I've met, and they would be excommunicated if they did. But 70% of the worlds population does beleive in Polygamy, so talk to one of them if you are interested in joining one....

Or, if you count ex-wives as members of harems, start with Rudi Giuliani....
