Wow! You got a load of answers, some from serving Marines.Understand that during Recruit training,Sweat and Grime are the norm for you're waking hours. When it comes time to bathe and do Hygiene items in the Showers, you are going to be totally wiped out physically before "Rack Time" and you're mind will still be numb at 0430 when you're DI rousts you out of dreamland. You will be too tired to make it look presentable.Just cut it off,It will grow back!Marine Corps Uniform standards are world class, that includes Hygiene. If you look like Hell when you fall out for inspection, the entire Platoon will Pay for it! When you get to the Barber chair, let them decide for you. You're hair will actually be better off for it and you won't have to worry about passing inspection or the price of Shampoo.Good Luck Recruit, you will soon be able to claim the Title of UNITED STATES MARINE!

They will instruct in all things once you get there including how to fix your hair. They may not be so nice about it, but you will know how to fix it. I would think that would only be a minor worry going into boot camp.

Good luck with the training and thank you for serving. It is a tough thing to do and they need people more than ever. You just need to remember that no matter how much they yell and scream, that that is just part of the process. They want everybody to make it through.

it is up to you but it is generaly easier to go through basic training if you cut your hair short before hand because you will be doing tough exercises and very active a bun can fall even if secured properly and then you get a good yelling for stoping and fixing your hair but it is your choice to make here is how to fix your hair though

Take a sock and cut off the closed toe end so that you have a 'tube' with two open ends

Then start at one side and roll it so that you end up with something that looks like a donut.

Then have your hair in a ponytail and pull it through the hole in your donut looking sock.

Put your head down and fan your hair so that all sides of the sock are covered with a layer of your hair.

Then take the excess hair and twist it around and tuck it behind the sock donut.

Practice this becuase you want it very tight and neat.

the site that dawg star provided is very accurate

I low ponytail at the base of the neck. Wrap into a bun, or do a sock bun. You cut the toe part off a sock, roll it up, and slip your hair through the middle. Spread your hair over the bun to cover the sock and put another pony tail holder on to secure it. Then wrap the loose ends around like a bun and secure them.

You can also french braid your hair, but make sure your cover (hat) is one size too big if you do that.

Make sure any ponytail holders or whatever you use is the same color as your hair, or they will drop you.

Marine Corps regulation says that your hair cannot fall below the bottom edge of your collar. So whatever you do dont let it be longer than that. Most of the time women get their hair (I believe it's called Bobby cut) before bootcamp because it's easier to take care of.

Wrap your hair in a sock bun. You also cannot have your hair below the base of your collar or neck. You'll be fine, or shave it! lol It grows back.

my friend went to the marine corp and they told her she didn't have to cut her hair but she did have to keep it in a bun (without any rubber bands or bobby pins/barretts showing). however, when she got there it was so chaotic that she rarely had time to get it done right and kept getting into trouble, so she ended up getting it cut off anyway. however, if you do decide to get it cut, get it done before you go- the military doesn't really go for the perfect cut!!!
btw- good luck and thanks for serving our country!!!

my sister and brother are marines and i am fixing to join them. but for boot camp my sister just cut her hair.
just get the cut and then talk to other females after boot camp on hair tips. with less hair, youll be happier. you dont have much personal time to fix it.
luck

My suggestion would be to cut your hair to collar-length.
South Carolina is humid and long, thick hair is just going to get in your way. You're going to be very, very active.
Shaving your head isn't necessary.

They will take care of your hair when you get there, Don't worry about that, just make sure you get a couple of full days of rest and sleep before you report.
