(not saying all do) my mom would have me at the hospital in a heart beat! what can I do to convince my aunt to take her?

ouz_fan...i really dont care what your opinions of me are...becuase it is quite obvious if you are on yahoo answers insulting people who have serious questions...then you obviously have no life and/or no family or friends that you care about or care about you...My cousin didn't know I was doing any of this, why would I want to worry her anymore then she is? And lets say this is serious...how are we supposed to have a good thanksgiving if she goes into the hospital? Dumb *** get a ****** life or go jump off a cliff or something.

First of all you did not mention your cousins age , this could be alot of things most of which are not deadly , I dont know your aunt so I will not as Josh did coment on what kind of person she is or whether or not she cares, all you really can do is if your cousin is concerned and her parents wont or feel it is not necessary to do something then if they have a family doctor call the doctor , you make it sound like she is going to die in the next minute or two, not even MRSA does that , so please dont panic , also your panic will make your cousin feel worse , also you said your mom took you to the doctor , so , call your mom and tell her what is going on and maybe she can do something to help. good luck , by the way if it was that big of an emergency , you dont need to ask about it on the computer , you need to ask someone that will help , like your mom

A headache could also be a sign of a brain tumor or bleeding or another serious illness. I think you and your cousin are a bit of a hypochondriac.
The staph bacteria is found naturally on about a quarter of people's skin, and even if it's the rare resistant form, it doesn't often pose a deadly health issue. It's much more dangerous to babies and people with lowered immune systems. MRSA is pretty well confined to hospitals, so unless your cousin spends a lot of time in hospitals, the chances of her getting it are even more rare.
Take a deep breath and try not to worry. I'm assuming your cousin is around that age where pimples are pretty normal; just wait it out. Check all the facts before you attempt any kind of self-diagnosis and if you're still in doubt, have your cousin call the doctor's office herself and speak to a nurse.

Well I can see it from both sides. Maybe your aunt doesn't have the money. Doctors cost quite a bit, especially emergency rooms and I can't imagine you would know whether or not they have good health insurance. She does have more experience than you and it could really be just a pimple. On the other hand, staph is a pretty serious thing. In the end, you can't really MAKER her mom take her. Try showing her your evidence (staph dead statistics might not hurt either) but that's about all you can do. Good luck!
PS - I hope for your cousins sake it is just a pimple...
edit: just read your other question. Fever and trouble breathing aren't anything to ignore but it could just be a coincidence. Do you know any doctors? Try finding a clinic in your area that helps with costs or talk to another adult and get their opinion.

Staph rarely starts as a pimple.Has your cousin been around staph within the past 5 days?If the answer is no,then your aunt is correct in not getting all upset. The best thing to do is to take a ball point pin,and mark around the edges of it.Then monitor it for the next few hours. If it starts growing,or turns red and hot to the touch, then conside contacting the doctor.Staph is rare outside of the medical facilities, but it does happen.

Wow. If you proved to her that it may be, and she's still not budging, then she's got a problem. Plus, if it is staph, it's very contagious, and she could end up infecting the whole school when she goes back. And no, you're not doctors, but damnit, you know when something's not right.

If you guys are so concerned, why can't someone else take her to the doctor or to the hospital? Can you call a doctor's office and explain the symptoms and maybe what it looks like and see what they think?

If your aunt won't help, someone else should take her.
One way or the other, she has to know.
Some people just don't have a clue. I have relatives like your
aunt. You're right to get on her case, maybe she'll wise up a bit.
