Depends on the kind of cancer, but I'd say that a fat wallet helps you *detect* cancer before it spreads through the body.
People with money tend to have higher survival rates mainly because they get regular checkups and better screening for it (either they pay for it or their jobs have better health plans), not because they respond any better to treatment.
Treatment with cancer is simple: cut it out or radiate it, then nuke the system with chemo. How much money you have when it comes down to that really doesn't matter as much as catching it early.

A fat wallet or dirt poor. Yes, there are things like medicaid and medicare for 'less than fortunate people' but you still have to meet their qualifications, and the average person doesnt.

Not always. Having a fat wallet can ease the burden on your family though.
Am going through this right now, and I tell ya, it has drained all of my savings along with my mothers savings as well.

No. But you should have a good insurance policy. The people who do not have insurance will need to deplete their life savings and assets in order to qualify for many of the low cost healthcare programs. Everyone still gets treated.
Our health insurance has already paid over $1 million dollars in healthcare costs for our son.
Always have insurance.

No you don't have to have a fat wallet. There are programs including Medicare for those who can't afford treatments.

It certainly can help. If you have a bad HMO they will not do much for you. If you have a high end insurance, you can have more choices in your care. If you have a large amount you have to pay, it makes a big difference if you can afford it.
If you are on Medicaid, there are major limits on what it will do.

No. My family has always been poor, and both of my parents and little sister survived cancer.

Nope, my father had insurance that covered 100% of anything they could do for him. (He had very good insurance) Even experiemental treatments were tried.
He died Nov 29, 2006 after fighting leukemia for 18 months.
Money, didn't make him a survivor
