don't "google" religious questions, just believe..take no notice of the information on the net. Peter Youngren was the preacher on today.. His theory is that if Christians spend time checking on biblical/religious facts they will not be totally devoted to God! What say you???

question is: In your opinion is this not a frantic attempt to keep Christians in their place, it seems they are concerned they may lose a few?

I'm an atheist..BTW..didn't mean to mislead

Christianity always has been anti-intellectual. The first sin was eating from the Tree of Knowledge.

I have never heard of Peter Youngren and probably never will again. As for his advice, he is an idiot. there is plenty of information on the net for and against, supporting and denouncing, proving and disproving biblical facts and tenets. For every one that says one thing, you can find another that says the opposite. I know how the Bible came to be, I know how it was put together, I know about the different myths that seem to tell the same stories as the Bible, and none of that has swayed my belief in God on little bit. A true Christian KNOWS GOD! You can't convince me that He isn't real or that the Bible isn't His word any more than you could convince me that I am not real and that I didn't type this answer.

WE PREACHERS ARE FRANTIC, now.
We had to suppress the printing press for 3000 years and now the Internet is threatening to loose our hold over people's minds and cash. Our secret plot with the Mafia, the Triads, the Yakuza, the Elders of Zion, and the CIA will restore our power soon.

OH NO!- I've committed the sin or sarcasm yet again!

Actually, look into several unrelated URL's on the internet, and read some books that disagree with each other, talk to some people who don't all agree with you or each other, and be ready to revise your conclusion until the end of your life.

And spend more time with Google and buy everything in its ads,
and less time on Yahoo.
(My son works for Google)

Everyone has their own beliefs. Not everyone is going to believe everything the same. You might disagree about just one thing, but that one thing could be the most important thing. There is no one that is TOTALLY devoted to God anyway. Everyone has at least one family member or friend and that would mean you are devoted to them in some way also. Believe what you want to believe, I do

Any preacher who doesn't want his flock studying religious/biblical facts wants a bunch of mindless devotees for a congregation. People should study their bibles and question the authority of their ministers if they are going against the NT teachings. Unfortunately, most would think that to question these people is a one-way ticket to BBQ land. Sad. :(

I say its bullshit, If you want too google something to believe it more than do so, everyone has a right to question things, Jesus questioned alot of things, therfore why can't Christians, i think that if the religion is moving to research the meanings, the gaps, the facts then the religion will move forward, instead of the followers being mindless sheep being told, and accepting the fact that God/Jesus Exist/Existed.

The Bible requires us to prove all things and hold fast to only what is true. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 To search all the "spirits" or religions. 1 John 4:1

And it holds us accountable for all our teachings and actions. Matthew 12:36, 37, Revelation 20:13, 14

The words reason, reasonableness, discernment, wisdom, knowledge, etc. are used very very often in the Bible. As well as phrases like "soundness of mind", etc.

God gave us minds for a reason. If we question and research and listen, our faith will come out stronger. We are not expected to blindly believe anything people tell us. As a matter of fact, the Bible warns against false prophets who will mislead. How do you recognize them if you are not educated and informed about your religious beliefs?

I believe just the opposite. I believe God wants us to be as informed and as educated as we can. Study is good. Christians need to be thinkers and need to understand what they believe. How can that take away from our devotion to God? This guy is off base!

Has shakespeare been alive now he might have written:

"first kill the preachers" instead of "first kill the lawyers"

religion is ALL ABOUT POWER AND MONEY. why do you think these people are so afraid of people finding out the facts and actually being nice to each other and treating everyone with respect? if we all did that every church would go out of business.

Everybody has to search. The Bereans in the Bible did it.
But if you search for questions or info that you feel will only add fuel to your fire, then it isn't fair.
In order to have a calm, intelligent conversation, you need to hear all sides of the story. This applies in anything in life.
I say go search !!!!
