Do you believe we should legalize polygamy since so many are living this way anyway?
I mean I just saw it on Oprah a couple of weeks ago and I knew about already, but there are also people in mainstream society living this way as well. Not just ppl from certain religions.

Have you heard the cries from the "Lost Boys" on the Mike & Julie show ... or Montell???

See, the boys who are the offspring of polygomist marriages are kicked out of the community when they're between the ages of 14-18 because the old men don't want to have to share the young women with them. Yep, the old men are jealous that a 14 year old girl is attracted to a 15 year old boy. So, they tell the young man that he's a sinner and banish him.

Religiously, the Bible is full of polyigimous marriages. Although the Bible doesn't make a commandment about this it does deminstrate that time and time again the short comings of polyigamas marriages, and shows the blessings on the families that are monogamous.

who wants the hassle of so many social interactions all under the same roof, plus can you imagine keeping track of all the children resulting from a marriage like that, i think the 2 person marriage is fine as it is.i don't think such lifestyles should be legalised if a group of people want to live that way then that's their business but to allow a man to rock up to the chapel 'o'love with 2 or more 'brides' stretches the idea of union for me, further more i would not accept polygamy as an option for me cause there's no way I'm going to be sharing my man with any other women, they can go and get their own man thank you.

In a country that boosts itself as a melting pot of peoples, beliefs, and cultures. I think there is very little we should make illegal that has to deal with religion in any way.

Let them all marry or not marry as they please. A plural marriage is no worse then a man that has had five children by four wives. As long as he takes care of everything, by the way that goes both directions, for the Lady's who can't stay monogamous.

To tell the truth its good people move about and from time to time a person that is promiscuous is a good thing for the gene pool. Let them breed outside the normal keeps from having strange kids.

Let the gays have their relationships as well. Matter fact just take religion and your personal moral compass (not you but the world as a whole) and quit afflicting it upon others. We are a melting pot, start mingling.

I am not in favour of legalized polygamy ... but...

I am more against FORCED marriages, especially (but not exclusively) under-aged brides, and a lack of women's rights among LDS polygamists & Islamics.

If the women enter legal polygamy freely, it is not a big deal to me!!! So what?

Do these wives benefit in any way, by arresting their spouse/bread-winner???

Do their offspring benefit from criminalization of their free "choice"???

Actually we in Canada just discovered we OK-ed one.

A USA polygamist moved to this country for a job, with multiple wives in tow, and our Canadian government decided it was OK.

Next you know, some one will try to have a polygamous marriage ceremony here.

Frankly, legalized polygamy offends me less than so-called "same sex" unions being mis-named as "marriages".

I don't remember polygamy in the new testament, but the O.T. is part of the bible too.

Many OT men of God were polygamous. I don't recall any biblical criticisms of that fact.

Frankly, there aren't enough good men to go around any way.

Especially in Africa.

On the other hand, Alaska and China are short on females.

How come it's only the guys who get to marry two?

The bible says a church leader needs to be "the husband of one wife", OK. that is reasonable, but few of us are church leaders.

Isn't that the only biblical prohabilition of polygamy?
It's the only one I can remember.

It almost makes human logic to limit children, not wives,

But God's ways are not our ways. The bible in pro life!!!

God DID speak the command "go forth and multiply", and never went back on it.

Could it be that this sin-cursed "hell on earth" will be over ASAP, and we'll suddenly get raptured to heaven, when we finally hit a secret magic quota of heaven-bound children?

So "the pill" may be a "two edged sword". I want more grandchildren!

There are consent issues. Polygamy is too complicated a legal arrangement to be permitted by defacto law. Consider the issues of community property, child custody, spousal and child support and you'll see why polygamy can't just be added to the current two person marriage law.

Yes, as it is a victim-less crime anyway. All victim-less crimes should be repealed from our laws.

Like prostitution. Who cares anyway?

If I meet a girl and buy her dinner and drinks to get favors that is OK. But if I give her the money instead that is a crime? So stupid.

Btw, there should be no such thing as "legally married", our government should get out of the marriage business completely.

Could you imagine what society would be like if this was legalized?
Talk about getting closer to the concept of Sodom & Gamora (sp?)
I would never go for that. Morally I just cannot accept it. I think it would expedite the growth of disease among other things that today's society is struggling with.

I watched that episode of Oprah as well.

Yes, polygamy should be legal, but not just because people are doing it, but rather, because there's no valid secular justification for prohibiting it.

Stuff like that should be decided at the state level by the elected representatives. The feds need to divorce themselves from the issue ;)
