Cats love boxes. One of my cats loves exploring in and around them. The other cat hasn't had much exposure to empty boxes. I've known lots of cats to be pretty obsessed. Part of it stems from a cat's love to fit itself into places it doesn't really belong (my older cat's favorite past time). So, you're not alone out there!

Ha ha - don't worry! I haven't met a cat yet that wasn't obsessed with boxes! It's one of those great cat mysteries!! I'm not sure exactly what the attraction is but perhaps they feel protected with the four walls of the box around them. Plus add all their fur and it probably gets quite warm - especially in the tiny boxes. My Percy will even jump into the box I put recycling in in my home office. Kinda funny when I can't just toss paper there I have to carefully slide it in beside him so I don't wake him up lol
When I put my cat Percy in his first cat show I ended up decorating a shoe box for his bed since I knew he'd probably ignore a real cat bed - and sure enough, he spent most of the show hanging out in the box! So for shows after that one I just redecorated the same box.

lol..all cats like to hide and sleep in boxes. I have 3 and they will try to get into a shoe box size all at once. I think it is just a cat thing, security or just having a good nap place. It is, after all, what they do best. I leave boxes out for them, or paper bags. They will even crawl inside my dresser drawers to have a nap..

I have an 8 year old cat I've had for 1 year. She also loves to lie in boxes that I have on the floor. They are shallow boxes, but she always loves to lie in them. I think your cat is probabally normal. I don't worry about, it myself because she is just lying in it, nothing else. She also loves to scratch her nails on boxes that have articles in them, like packages I get in the mail. Again, I let her, it's better than tearing up my furniture, and she won't use her scratch post.

PS)I think it helps them feel more secure, because they are surrounded on all 4 sides, and feel that nothing can sneak up on them.

It is part of a cat's courosity. My cat is always climbing into things. I have plastic tubs I used for things sitting around and he will climb in there. He thinks it is a game. He will also get into empty shopping bags - the big bags. Just the cat exploring. It is funny to watch them do it too.

Cats like the closed in feeling that boxes give. Remember that their wild counterparts live in caves and small places. Your cat is comfortable in those surroundings, keeps them safe from possible predators.

Cats love boxes just like ferrets love socks and dogs love balls. If it's not hurting anything, let them have their fun. I stick a few boxes around the living room occasionally, just because our guys like using them.

its like a new toy for them. they can both scratch at it, sleep in it and play "guess whats in the box", the 1 where they randomely jump in then out again. Its not somtehing a normal cat would find unless he lived in a house with a family, so they have never seen it b4 and are curious.

I don't know but he's not the only one. My 16 pound cat has shoved his rear in boxes that he can fit about a toe into.
