Yup, my Saab has one of the stupid items built in and I first played with the daft item it from home to the local church.

It wanted me to go down the High Street, down to The Green, then through a residential road to the wrong end of Church Road.

I can read the bleedin' Church clock from my bedroom window, as it is only 200 yards away from home.

I believe & loved the item & proof on the "Top Gear" program that if you want to drive from Birmigham to Bristol, avoiding motorways, one system advised first getting a ferry to Ireland.

I dismay. Oh global satellite positioning is fine, and use it on the boat, but in conjunction with paper maps & charts.
I will not trust the twits that wrote the ludicrous software.

The screen in the car now has a picture of my sons stuck to it, to remind me to drive safely and not be distracted with pointless & wrong directions.

So I ignore the technology the same as I ignored boarding details at Heathrow on the screens, and was first on the flight using good old logic.

Hey Ho !

Yes, and it is wonderful when I use in in towns and cities, but when i first had it, because I had heard of the problems they cause, I tested it out in the countryside, where i live, it has tried sending me down roads that don't exist, taken me off main roads, only to put me back on the same road further down. Very strange! I think that you have to engage some good old common sense when you are using them.

I have. Handy for finding streets in towns you do not know. Set it up to end where you want to be but only turn it on when you are nearly there. That nagging woman drives me nuts!
It's also handy as it sets up a map and names the roads I am on. I can then look them up on a map.

I drive all over the western USA, and pick up and deliver trailers at many different addresses. My Garmin Street Pilot is a lifesaver for me! I'd be lost (frequently) without it!

i do, they can get you into some messes when you first use them! once you are used to how they work, they're brilliant. just dont expect to use them perfectly first off, like any tool you need to learn to use it.
