I just bought a new HD DVD player and the HDMI cable. I am wanting to hook it up to my regular (non-HD) TV. Obviously there is no connection on my television to hook up this HDMI cable. So, will the HD DVD player even work if I were to hook it up to my tv (without a cable)? At this point, I'm not concerned about the HD "quality". I'm buying my HD items in pieces because I cannot afford to buy it all at once. But I have Planet Earth on HD DVD and would at least like to watch it. So, would I need another type of cable for the regular TV?

I agree that most HD DVD players have several ways to hook themselves up to a tv set. Component are red, blue, green, and composite yellow for video. The Red and White are audio, just do one line at a time. Follow it, and you will be able to hook up your DVD player./

Most HD DVD players have outputs other than the HDMI port. You just need to find one that has a match to a spare input on your TV.

I ran an SVideo cable to my TV from my HD player so I could get into the menu system and setup the higher def outputs. I also noticed the first disk I played also showed through the SVideo port.
