he's just lonely. i know that's hard to hear, but he's lonely and if anyone else showed interested, he'd move on. so just talk when he wants to talk, and if he jokes just smirk, kinda like it's just amusing and only sorta funny. it's your way of saying "you may be cute and funny, but i'm fine w/ or w/o you. guys WANT to be challenged, exspecially when girls are involved with the "prize". it's the thrill of the chase. if you hand your affection over, he'll get tired and find someone else. be nice but be reserved. you go girl!

What sort of affection? Like friendship-stuff like hugging? Maybe he really likes you as a friend? Perhaps he is gay so he doesn't find it strange to show you affection. Then again, if you do not know for sure he does not like you perhaps truly he does and he's just shy or he's trying to get you to make the first move? Maybe though he has nothing but sex on the brain and thinks you're attractive but doesn't want committment. Hope he genuinely likes you instead though:)

It could be that he is just using you to fool around or even trying to have a f*** buddy. I have met and gone out with guys whom showed affection but was not ready to commit. Not all guys are like this though.

He's a caring or too affectionate person, or he's fooling around with you.
It also depends on the kind of affection he shows, if it's visibly a friendly one, it's the first option, otherwise, if it's the couple-kind, then he's fooling around...
