why do so many drivers not put their lights on at dusk or in conditions of poor visibility ? are they just plain stupid ?

They have no idea of what safety means and that is why there are so many wrecks. People seem to think that just because they can see, they can be seen. Duh, they probably have no clue as to why newer cars have lights that turn on when the car is started. They are proably too busy talking on their cell phones to notice that it is time to turn on the lights!

A lot of drivers don't realize it is getting dark or that visibility is getting poorer. Some vehicles have sensors that turn the lights on automatically when it gets dark. Perhaps it should be on all vehicles.

1. They do not realize how dark it is because their eyes are accustomed to the light available.
2. Dusk to one man is good light to another.
3. One mans light shower is driving rain.
I must confess that in practice I often leave it untill I see a few cars with lights on
then mine gno wether I agree they are needed or not

a) they're stupid.
b) they've put their side lights on when it's started to get dark - so they can see their dashboard properly - but once it's actually dark, they haven't switched up to their main beam.
i usually find flashing them a few times usually gets the message across.

They are Energy Conservationists, saving the planet by sacrificing you and anybody else. "See and be seen" is a concept beyond their tiny, selfish brains.
