My father served with the Royal Engineers 1943 - 46 and should have received some medals concerning his service. What organisation deals with military records of servicemen during this period and where might I find what awards he should have received?

See if you can get a copy of his military record. Make sure you check with the embassies or consulates of every country he was stationed in. They may have additional awards for him the national records center may not have been notified about !

Have his name rank regiment and number ready, write them it could take 3/4 weeks to get what he is entitled too, only blood kin relatives will be awarded the medals.e,g, i got my uncles because i was a mills by blood and birth, my mum could not because she became a mills by marriage and not birth. lets hope you celebrate soon over the heroic actions your dad didfor you too have a better life.
i would write to the imperial war musuem, they may have written statements of the conflicts he was involved in, and will give you a better understanding of the type of person he was whil'st serving, fighting for his Late King and country.

I'd try the Ministry of Defence first.If they can't help then they'll probably know who can
