Every time I back up against a wall or my garage door at night. it is still easy not to see it and winter brings forth all sorts of lighting problems. The one which worries me most of all is when one front dipped headlight is not working and I think I am approaching a motor cycle

The excuse is that they can't put their foot on the brake and run to the rear of the car at the same time. Phooey! All you have to do is look for the reflection on both sides of the car to know. If the pavement lights up on one side and not the other, duh, a light is out! People are just to busy to think or worry about safety any more. At least until they get in an accident and then the brain cells start working...

They do not know how to check the brake light, because it does not function if no one is in the car, and you cannot see it if you are in the car. My parents check theirs by having one person operate the brake while another observes the light. I jam a club (antitheft device) between the driver's seat and brake pedal to hold down the brake pedal while I check the lights on my car.

Not long ago, someone would tell you at a red light or when you parked etc...Now, people don't care to about each other and the only acknowledgement given to other people is the "stare down". As if the 120lb really tough 18 year old could whip his way out if a wet paper bag or something...I don't think people are too stupid they just don't care anymore. Besides, it would require work and we don't want to do that do we...nobody does anymore.

Another side to your question is 'Why do 'Boy ( and girl) racers' insist on wiring the brake lights to be permanently on? - Usually Pug 206 & Citroen Saxo. They probably think it looks 'cool' but being the retards they are !! Need I say more?? Another stupid fad - blue LEDs on the end of the exhaust tail pipe !!! When I were a lad, etc etc.

lights were checked this AM in my pretrip inspection that is done daily. Force of habit from driving at work. Good question though should get people thinking about checking lights.

Some older cars only have one brake light so there allowed that but you are right the number of people that either have non working lights or do not seem to understand that you do not have to put your fog lamps on when it rains is staggering. so is the number of people that seem to have forgotten where the indicators are or their car is strangely not equipped with them.

Errrm, well they were fine when i checked them on Saturday, but in this weather the bulbs tend to go downhill quite quickly..
It does seem to be a big problem here (Glasgow) but the cops are quite quick to pull you up for it... (For some folk its the only time they find out!)

when i visited glasgow i thought the same, i would say 80-90% of the cars only had 1 brake light working. It's the cold weather, gets all the weak bulbs.

I think it is easy to overlook the rear lights, but I also think at least half of drivers are too stupid to know how to change it.
